DESCRIPTION
1989 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham 4 Door Sedan
For consignment, a 1989 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham 4 door sedan with a title verified 96,140 actual miles. Of the 32,756 Fleetwoods produced in 1989, a majority 26,641 were four door sedans while 4,108 were two door coupes and 2,007 were the Sixty Special luxury edition. Here\'s a running, restorable project car with decent bones and a new transmission.
Exterior
By today\'s standards, the billboard shaped front end of the car, vertical and flat, is something of a bygone era and instead of shedding the oncoming wind, the big grille was to absorb it, and the bigger, the better! Headlights stand straight like Centurions at each post while the bumper and protruding bumperette dare anything to get in the way. From there, the long front end is a combination of flat plains and long panels, here in very weathered Medium Gray Metallic and topped by remnants of a black vinyl roof. 15-inch wire wheel covers are all in place, fronting the 75 series. The bumper fillers are gone and as a common consequence of time, now available in the aftermarket. Plastic molding from the bumpers and some of the rocker trim is also MIA, and the paint over the entire car is stained, weather, bubbling, chipped, and has some surface rust.
Interior
Remnants of a once luxurious interior begins with Medium Dark Gray vinyl meeting simulated wood and brushed aluminum on the doors and all four show wear, weathering and tears. Once inside, the gray tufted cloth seats, front and rear, show some patina and darkening through age, exposure and use. The steering wheel also shows a good bit of age and rests on a red column, but once past that, the dashboard presents relatively cleanly with its horizontal speedometer and plethora of plastic wood trim and a climate control panel. The dash pad is badly cracked, the plush carpet below is not bad, but the headliner is a goner. A cavernous trunk is covered in cloth panels and shows age and usage along with rust on the inner deck lid.
Drivetrain
Dirty and rusted but not busted is how you\'ll find the 5.0 liter V8 with a one barrel carburetor and rated at 140 horsepower. It\'s backed by a 200R4 4-speed automatic transmission, newer according to our consignor, which sends power to the 10 bolt rear axle with 2.79 gears.
Undercarriage
Plenty of advanced surface rust and a bit of oil on the pan underneath. Here we find an incomplete single exhaust with a stock style muffler, coil springs at both ends with a 4link in back, and power brakes divided as disc in front and drum in back.
Drive-Ability
Our functionality test of this once great land yacht reveals some things that will need attention. Not working items include the heater blower, A/C, power windows, driver\'s power seat, tail and brake lights, reverse lights, turn signals, and parking brake which is partially stuck in the on position. The car does run and idle and respond to shifting and remaining functions work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
When the term \"The Cadillac of...\" was still in fashion, Fleetwood were still at the top of the luxury pyramid for American cars. If your neighbor had one, business must have been good for him and at a time when Buicks, Chevrolets, and Oldsmobiles were still dominant on the road, the Cadillac spoke a language of its own and no translation was needed.
