A project very ready for finishing. Most rust has been addressed and you would actually have to disassemble her to make a rat rod. She brakes, she runs, and she drives. 12 volt conversion and a rarity in the early truck world, she has a factory metal (read, not wood) bed.

Whether it was rum running, tax evasion or just a shorter path, this Dodge has a history of running the deserts of California and in a speedy fashion. Even with classic old school metal, these trucks just didn’t weight that much, so ripping on the sand was with the greatest of ease. Today, she’s a project ready for the next and final steps. Address a few body issues, not many, perfect the very cool cab, review the running gear and you’re off to paint. Located in Hemet, CA it’s a dry desert rig. And it has a true, clean, and clear CA title in our Owner’s name.

Gray primer, reported as a sealer, too, protect the work undergone to prep this body for paint. More work is, of course, required but the bones are solid. Reviewing the photos shows her overall condition, and upon close inspection you’ll see the flaws and the features. Her style is unmistakable as a pre-war classic.

Gray leather upholster the front seat and its from a VW Passat. Look closely and you’ll see that it is fit upon the original metal frame. Door panels show clean and simple with gray Naugahyde, as is the headliner and kick panels. A new metal dash has been installed below the front windshield and the original gauge panel set in, but not yet finished. The windshield is a framed assembly, and tilts forward on new metal. Crank operation is reported as new as well. The voltage has been converted to 12v and the wipers gained an electric motor for their operation.

Said to purr, this little Dodge has a younger brother Dodge heart. A Reported 1950 218 cid flathead 6 cyl out of a B1B pickup. Nice clean addition to the 6 is a split manifold and dual exhaust, thus obtaining a harmonized chorus of dissipated tone. Married to the flatty is a three-speed manual transmission leading to an open-style driveline and more modern (than 1935) rear end assembly. The complete braking system, from master to wheel cylinders thus all hydraulic, is all new and stated as operating perfectly.

No Pre-Purchase Inspection was performed on this ol’ Dodge, as she’s a project, al be it, running and driving, rig. We invite questions to the Owner who is ready to take them on. He is disappointed in not being able to finish his dream, but reality and time stop for no one and hinder its progress.

This almost goes without saying. But for classic trucks, vehicles built prior to WW2 are finding a tough market. Trucks, in their eternal coolness, buck that trend and have been attracting generations of builders and cruisers. Big grills, big fenders, tilt windshields and that necessary bed make for a superb investment. Investment of not just dollars, but time, sweat, energy and character. And it’s that character that is demanded in an old pickup.
