DESCRIPTION

1941 Nash Ambassador 600 4 Door Sedan

For consignment, a 1941 Nash Ambassador 600 4 door sedan with a title verified 45,482 actual miles. This is a model 4148, one of eight model 600\'s available at the time, here in its original color, built for six passengers and $810 when new. This one retains its numbers matching engine.

Exterior
Still in stage application, Ghost Gray adorns this pre-war car with its aerodynamic body with grace. The distinctive waterfall grille flanks the pointed nose under which resides another grille, this one horizontal with a wrap-around detail that caps the wide front fenders. In back, a gravel guard caps the rear fender and a band of stainless trim runs the length of the car and finds the rear slope, but not as dramatically as the drip rail does, following the sharp C-pillar line down to the decklid. Tall doors lead to narrow windows and the rear opens coach style while proper Nash hubcaps protect body colored 16-inch wheels. Art deco styling is on the bumper guards that are nearly in line with the simple but handsome tail lights; a decorative exhaust deflector adds more polished metal out back. Imperfections include a chip in the windshield, edgewear, window deglazing, dings in the grille strakes, broken rubber rocker trim, and some scuffs and chips.

Interior
Tan cloth door panels show some staining and discoloration but are fully intact with attractive hardware and carpeted footers. Inside, the broadcloth front bench is in rough shape, covered with a blanket and while the rear bench has seen better days and has stains, it remains mostly intact. While we\'re back here, we note the package shelf and C-pillars are also stained indicating possible water intrusion. The fantastic two spoke steering wheel shows some cracks and the former glory of the center cap has faded, fronting a classic instrument cluster in an art deco font in square gauges. The tan dash itself, red highlights and ribbed trim piece present in nice condition and while the red carpet below is good, the mohair headliner above suffers a big tear. The large trunk has a nice red carpet and a matching spare.

Drivetrain
Driver quality conditions are found on the numbers matching 172.6 L-head six cylinder, rated at 75 horsepower and fueled through a 1-barrel carburetor. Behind it, a 3-speed manual transmission is routing power to 4.11 gears in back.

Undercarriage
Age, surface rust, and some residual oil are found underneath where things are otherwise solid. Drum brakes are front and rear and a single exhaust carries a stock style muffler before exiting out back. Suspension consists of coil spring at both ends with trailing arms in back.

Drive-Ability
They call it ghost, but we prefer battleship gray as we roll this one into the sun, the L-head running on all six cylinders and doing just fine. We\'re on older tires here, so mind our speed and turn in, but the upright cabin provides a comfortable ride with plenty of side windows for visibility. We note the heater blower, horn, head and tail lights are not working. She also pulls hard to the left on braking. Beyond that, all functions on this tall Nash work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Nash produced just over 80,000 vehicles in 1941 but this is the first one to grace our halls. While it retains classic 40\'s styling, it also has distinct features of its own including the dramatic front end that might have a few people scratching their heads as you enter the car show. Those who lived through that era and know cars will recognize it immediately
