INTRODUCTION: I\'ll be honest with you- it was the look and the sound of this GTO that first drew me in. But once I got up close, the true quality of the car became apparent, it has only 400 miles on the body off frame restoration finished in 2022. Then I learned it has factory air conditioning, and came with Pontiac Historical Services documentation. At that point, I knew I had to have it!
EXTERIOR: This GTO is a real stunner, and the combination of colors and wheels sets it apart immediately. The body is laser straight from front to back, including those long, dramatic Coke bottle quarter panels that define the era. I don\'t see any signs of rust or damage, and the panels line up beautifully throughout. Even the doors open and close with the solid feel of a new car. Repainted in its original Tyrol Blue, the metallic finish is laid out evenly, while the clear coat has been polished smooth as glass. All of the chrome and trim are straight, bright, and sparkle beautifully against the blue paint. The unique wire mesh grille used on the 1967 models gives the front end a distinctive and aggressive personality. The jambs are painted clean, the weatherstrips have all been replaced, and the vinyl top looks brand new. Both the front and rear glass have been replaced as well. Completing the look is a set of reproduction redline tires wrapped around vintage style Hurst wheels, a combination that absolutely puts this GTO over the top.
INTERIOR: It is wonderfully nostalgic, having been restored back to 100% factory condition. Slide behind the wheel and you\'re instantly transported to 1967. One of the coolest features is the iconic Hurst Dual/Gate shifter mounted in the center console, a signature muscle car touch that adds both style and function. Fresh carpet fits nicely on the floor, and it comes complete with a full set of GM seat belts. The seats have good cushion and have been fully reupholstered, while the door panels and armrests have also been replaced. The dash area is especially clean and well preserved, showing no signs of abuse. It features a new dash pad along with the proper woodgrain insert, and the original radio remains in place. The interior lights are working, including the glove box light, where you\'ll also find a new glove box liner. Out back, the rear mesh speaker tray has been replaced, along with a nice tight fitting headliner overhead. The original steering wheel does have a couple of typical cracks, but otherwise this interior captures the look and feel of a fresh 1967 GTO beautifully.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under the hood is the correct 400, properly date coded and stamped for the car. It has reportedly been rebuilt internally to H.O. specs and has a factory stock appearance on the outside. It retains the correct manifolds, and carb, along with fresh factory style valve covers and air cleaner assembly, giving the engine a detailed presentation. The pulleys, brackets, wires, and hoses all appear proper and fresh, showing careful attention to detail throughout. This is also a factory air conditioned car, and the system is functional for added comfort on warm days. Power steering makes cruising easy and enjoyable, while the stock cooling system keeps the engine running as it should. Finishing touches include a Delco battery topper, reproduction spring clamp battery cables, and a properly secured battery. Even the windshield washer squirters are hooked up, and all the metal finishes throughout the engine bay are painted and detailed very nicely.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The underside of the trunk lid is nicely painted and detailed, complete with the proper decals, a clean latch assembly, and a neatly finished jamb area. The weatherstrip has also been replaced and the panel part numbers are still visible. Inside, the trunk features clean solid metal along with a reproduction mat and the wiring appears to have been replaced as well.
UNDERSIDE: The body was off the frame for a thorough restoration, bringing the underside back to factory new condition. The floors are pristine original metal, beautifully detailed and finished in a smooth semi-gloss black. The chassis was prepped and painted to match, and the steering and suspension have been completely rebuilt and detailed. It features a factory correct Gardner exhaust system with correct staggered size mufflers and resonators in the tailpipes. The brake system has been fully redone, including new lines and e-brake cables. The fuel system has also been replaced, including the tank. Looking up at the engine, it has a very fresh, proper appearance, complete with the correct starter. It is paired with its original 1967 Turbo 400 automatic transmission, and a restored driveshaft leads back to the original rear end with nice cruising gears.
