DESCRIPTION

This 1966 Dodge Polara convertible started life in Texas. We know this from the original "Certicard" that was issued with the car. It can be seen in the photos. It is now a California car and has been for the last few years. Our owner acquired the car in a trade less than a year ago. He has enjoyed the car greatly since then. This older vintage Dodge convertible runs well and there have been a number of important repairs have been made to keep the car dependable.

This '66 Polara ragtop can be driven just the way it is or it would be a wonderful candidate for a complete restoration. The original engine, transmission, top and interior are in place as well as all of the straight body panels. The car has clocked a bit over 61,000 original miles and runs really well. In the last year, plenty of basic maintenance has been performed on the car to make sure it is safe, driveable and reliable. It is a big, blue, open-air, powerful Mopar convertible with room for 4 or more and a great stereo. It is a great car just the way it is. It also has everything there to be fully restored.

The Polara Convertible possesses many of the great styling elements of the mid-60s Mopars . Low and wide, long straight body, the 4-headlight grill and those extra wide taillights. We don't know when the repaint took place, but it was some time ago. There are 2 small places where the paint has flaked, but this car is a solid 10-footer. Our owner describes it as a 6 out of a possible 10. The light blue finish is the only repaint the car has had. The car came from the factory with a similar light blue. The body panels are straight all over the car. All of the original chrome and brightwork is in place. Some of that is slightly dented and can use a little straightening and polishing, but it is all there. That includes the side trim, both bumpers, and all of the factory badges. The bumpers and big parts are all straight. Those red fender skirts are not from this car, but they are original OEM equipment for this model. They add lots of style and accentuate the difference between a real steel classic car versus all of those ubiquitous dark gray things on the street. The convertible top is the original and it has two small rips. The electric device to put the top up and down works fine.

The interior of this vintage 1966 Polara is original. It is a bit frayed around the edges and has a rip or two, but it is original and in pretty good condition overall. It is perfect for a daily driver. As the OEM original interior, it has value for anyone wanting to restore this vintage Mopar convertible. A padded dash cover sits on top of the original dash which has a few cracks. Everything works inside except the horn. Even the carpet is original. The odometer reads 61K miles and our owner believes that to be accurate and correct. A modern stereo has been tucked into the glove box. You can have the music you need to cruise in your Mopar convertible.

A stock original 383 motor powers the car and it runs fine. The original Torqueflite automatic transmission shifts the car smoothly and quietly. Our owner has installed many new parts including the fuel pump, air filter, battery, radiator, engine hoses and master cylinder. In addition, a new alternator and starter have been installed. The car is tuned so that it starts and runs really well. The motor delivers plenty of power. A new dual exhaust system has been installed to let the big Mopar breathe. A disc brake conversion has been performed and a proportional valve installed to make sure the braking is balanced correctly. The steering has been improved, but is still a bit loose. New bushings have been installed in the sway bar. Overall, our owner calls the ride halfway between "tight" and "floater."

A complete and thorough evaluation of this car was performed by a third-party inspector. He encountered a car that started, stopped and that ran with no misfires. The steering was responsive and the brakes were firm.

You may not be surprised to find that this is a California car. It looks like it. This is a fun car to do just about anything with. You may have noticed the rising values in the classic and muscle car markets and this is a chance to grab a real original vintage 1966 Dodge Polara convertible before these cars take off. A real genuine 1960s Muscle car that runs strong, it is a convertible and is all original. We can almost see it in your driveway.
