DESCRIPTION
1965 Chevrolet Impala SS 2 Door Hardtop
For consignment, a 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS 2 door hardtop showing 433 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. This car has been replicated to appear as Bobby Allison\'s Impala he shared riding duties with Chris Turner. The car\'s livery, more than its ranking in NASCAR, is legendary and was built by Rhine Built Enterprises.
Exterior
Unmistakable Tuxedo Black paint covers the car adorned with gold graphics that match the horizontal panels of the car. The hood advertises 427 boldly with black graphics bordered in red, while the doors wear the 22 in gold and red trim. Our consignor lets us know that numbering and lettering has been hand painted! The elongated rear quarter panel provides plenty of room for the Rosenthal Chevrolet sponsorship call out while the front leaves room for brand decals. Hood pins and 15-inch slotted wheels painted gold help solidify this excellent tribute and the rear view of triple tail lights and straight bumper are one of the reasons why this era of classic Impala\'s are so sought after. A once ubiquitous design now incredibly dramatic. So you can identify the car from the nosebleed seats or a helicopter, a large 22 is on the roof with vibrant red borders. Imperfections include some bubbling on the hood, chips along the windshield reveal, A-pillar bump and filler, a few scratches, edgewear, and other inclusions.
Interior
The tribute doesn\'t stop on the inside as the interior is race prepared, beginning with aluminum door panels in lieu of pedestrian vinyl, however hardware such as window cranks still remain. A full roll cage surrounds the two racing bucket seats while up front, a simple steering wheel and shaft column fronts the aluminum boxed dashboard holding Stewart Warner gauges. The billet handled shifter rises from a barren but glossy black floor. Were you expecting a headliner? That would only add weight to your race car, so there isn\'t one. In the trunk is a fuel cell and red top battery.
Drivetrain
Protected by a tubular cage, here we have a 350ci V8 which our consignor states is a GM crate engine, now featuring a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and headers. It\'s mated to a date correct Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission with power routed to the 12 bolt rear axle with 3.31 gears.
Undercarriage
No rust here and overall clean conditions. The polished headers lead to a pair of FlowMaster mufflers and the exhaust exit in a faithful NASCAR direction ahead of each rear wheel on the side. Drum brakes are equipped at all four wheels and suspension includes coil springs up front and a 3 link with coil springs and a panhard bar in back.
Drive-Ability
The seats fit like a glove and the engine turns over with a pleasing exhaust rumble as we roll this tribute onto the test loop where this car tracks straight, handles turns like a champ, and has very good power underfoot with the Muncie doing its job. Purpose built cars like this have few features and as such, a high percentage of workable electronics, especially since this one\'s been completely rewired. Everything works! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This is not your grandmother\'s Impala...let\'s get that clear right away! This is a faithful representation of a race car and as such, you don\'t have the creature comforts, but boy, what an impact this will have when you arrive at the car show! This was born as a true Impala SS and now represents an iconic NASCAR Impala.
