DESCRIPTION

This 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air sedan has exceptional paperwork, and that's actually quite important. Because while it's already great to love it for the classic/correct two-tone style, this is one of the rare few that can prove its originality in places like the engine bay.

Tri-Five Chevys are always in demand, and this is the one that launched the legend. The factory-correct Skyline Blue and India Ivory. It looks like the full package was updated later in life, but there's also the right aged-in style that will make some onlookers whisper about "survivors". And while that's likely not the case for the paint, overall, you'll start to see this one absolutely earns that level of respect. The body panels are complete, and they still hang with the kind of precision that allows the full side trim to flow across the doors in an almost seamless fashion. In fact, speaking of the brightwork trim, this one has everything complete: from the wide grille, to the wraparound chrome bumpers, to the jet-inspired hood ornament.

The survivor-grade presentation continues inside with the factory-correct blue interior. The seats carry that cool '50s design and have textured coated cloth inserts. This is not perfect, but the door panels, headliner, and carpeting will once again have people talking about your car's history. So take some time to dig into how complete this presentation really is. You get the artful factory steering wheel, and beyond that is the dual cowl dash that had a design shared with the Corvette. The correct AM radio is also still in the dash for display. Even the trunk looks like a time capsule with the correct jack, color-matched full-sized spare, and instructions pasted to the inner wall.

Often owners of late 1960s and 1970s cars love to talk about numbers-matching originality. It's harder in 1950s machines because the body/production number was not done in coordination with the engine numbers. However, this Bel Air comes with exceptional paperwork, including the original bill of sale. That has info like the engine's serial number, and so this is one of the few cars of the era where you get to tout its documented originally. And when it's on a Tri-Five Chevy, that's something special. So we're quite happy to see the total presentation look so honest. The 235 cubic-inch inline-six is smooth and torque-filled, and it was a mainstay of Chevrolet vehicles for decades. This makes for a fine cruiser. In fact, while you have the original motor and many correct/stock components, there have also been the right upgrades. Items like the newer aluminum radiator and an alternator were added to keep this a proper cruiser. So it's great to have this motor fire up readily, run smoothly, and you even have the proper old-school control with the column-shifted automatic transmission.

The paperwork file is not only the dealer invoice, but also the warranty card, title documentation, and maintenance records going all the way back to 1955! This is an American icon that offers better bragging rights than you'll find in just about any other classic. So if you love to talk about your vintage wheels, this is the one to bring to the party.
