DESCRIPTION

1984 Mercedes Benz 300SD Sedan

For consignment, a 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300SD sedan showing 155,892 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. Only about 12,000 of these cars were produced for the U.S. market and represented the peak of consumer luxury vehicles at the time.

Exterior
This fine example is covered in Astral Silver Metallic paint in two stage German excellence. The body is long and lean with a sizable rear overhang and polished window reveals that create a stately and handsome profile, unmistakably Mercedes. The front and rear also exhibit characteristic Mercedes features including the three pointed star, central grille, square headlight with inboard yellow fog lights, and grooved tail light lenses which on this car, a smoked. 16-inch wheels are wrapped in 225/60R16 tires with a late 2023 date code. A dark gray band encircles the car and includes the distinctive fluted body moldings. Imperfections include blemished and stained paint, chips, scratches, bubbling, peeling clear, and scuffs most heavily on the front bumper.

Interior
The door panels have a handsome layout of gray leather and wood accents and all four doors present well with some cracks including on the wood laminate. The leather and MB Tex seats have held up well and provide ultra comfortable cushioned thrones for the front bucket occupants and rear bench dwellers, all with headrests. Up front, in true Mercedes fashion, practical and efficient with a great steering wheel fronting a simple cluster and the mundane factor is removed with the addition of glossy wood trim from end to end.It also backs the center stack with a push button A/C panel and AM/FM/CD radio. There are numerous cracks in the dash pad observed. Wood dresses the center console where the shifter and some switchgear reside and we note some cracking in the polyurethane. Plush gray carpet is at our feet and in the trunk and up above, a soft gray headliner also covers the sunroof. The cavernous trunk is fully finished and clean.

Drivetrain
The Benz is equipped with a 3.0 liter turbo diesel inline five cylinder, rated at 123 horsepower and fuel injected. It\'s mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power through 3.07 gears in the rear axle. The bay is clean and presentable.

Undercarriage
Other than some road dust, soot, residual oil, and typical oxidation, the underside is solid and clean. We do note a gash in the spare tire depression. Power disc brakes are on all four wheels and a single exhaust runs through original equipment on its way to a twin tip exit. Coil springs occupy the fully independent suspension.

Drive-Ability
Once out of the garage, the feeling of heft and solidity strike you almost immediately. This is not your grandfather\'s Oldsmobile, not by a mile. It runs well and tracks true, and all the while you\'re comfortably positioned in a quiet cocoon on wheels. We note the A/C and power antenna don\'t work, along with the driver rear window, passenger front window, and passenger power seat back. All other functions afforded driver and riders operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

This is indeed an uncommon car and Mercedes Benz aficionados are likely dialing our number already, so don\'t hesitate or meditate on this vintage luxury car. In 1984, this was the big dog and if you had one, it was special. Well, you can still feel special! These do not come up for sale often, so step on the gas, umm, make it diesel!
