The bright blue beauty is a 1940 Chevrolet pickup. It is a classically designed pre-war Detroit workhorse with flowing lines and more usefullness than one can imangine. But- a close look underneath reveals a well-crafted, strong running, modern drivetrain and all of the right modifications to harness it our little blue pickup.
Our Owner has had this truck for 10 years and it was re-sprayed prior to that. Gorgeous, deep, durable enamel-like paint that just gleams from every angle. All of the front end running gear has been completely updated and extensive work was done to allow for the small block Chevy 350. Veteran hot rodders will see that the right components were used in articulating the final running design of this fine old truck.
The color was custom, but when our owner added new floorboards, he had the paint pro match it perfectly. Four large, bulbous perfectly curved fenders set off the Cragar S&S mags and tires. The bed is original with the original wood planks! Still usable today and actually looks great in contrast to the blue backdrop of the truckbed. The only inperfection is a hole in the corner. More perfectly formed steel makes up the hood, front end and the grill. All gleaming. Trimming out this vintage pickup are LED parking lights and new and updated headlamps. The rear quarter panels, bumper, tailgate, the whole rear- has been smoothed out and stylized in a way that is very pleasing to the eye. This is no snowflake, this is a real Chevy Pickup.
You’ll find 2 well sized modern cloth bucket seats to start. The perfect blue color has been applied to the dash and the interior sheetmetal as well. Along with the tidy carpet and console, the whole interior is complimentary to the rest of the fine truck. Note the dash and gauges- simply stunning in classic placement and cleanliness of design. A feast for the eyes. An oval window in the rear sheds more light inside and the very kool vintage Kal Kustom parking brake handset sets it off.
Out little blue truck runs very strong and is a pleasure to drive. Engine- Small block Chevy – 350 Cubic inches -moderate cam installed. Headers, valve covers and a dual exhaust. Runs very strong. 2 speed Powerglide Automatic transmission leads to a 9” Ford rear end. The frame rails of this truck are original as well. Extensive prep work has gone into them to make the frame stiff enough to resist the power and torque from the engine including taking the car completely apart and welding extensive reinforcing steel plates to the frame, or “ boxing “ the frame. Very important when putting a stronger motor into an older frame. Ours is boxed, reinforced and is well engineered to handle the horsepower. It is not easy to build a good hot rod to last and this one is. Power, safety and fun.
Our very detailed inspector from Lemon Squad did note a few small imperfections but outside of those, he noted that the engine has plenty of power, transmission shifed as designed and the steering was responsive, the suspension was firm and it handled well.
There are half-finished, never-to-be-completed hot rod projects all over the country. It is hard to build a good driving, well running car with power and that lasts. That is exactly what this is, a gorgeous 1940 Chevy Pickup. And, yes- it will fit in your garage.
