1968 Ford F100 Long Bed Flareside Pickup
For consignment, a 1968 Ford F100 long bed flareside pickup truck showing 84,467 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This truck is the perfect blend of new and old, including a newer paint job made to look old, a Holley EFI system on an inline six cylinder, and shiny mags supporting a classic truck configuration. This was a six year labor of love according to our consignor and it\'s now time to share the love.
Exterior
Single stage Caribbean Turquoise is sanded down in spots to exhibit the much desired profile of patina, wonderfully random and also purposeful at the same time. The body is straight and the palette is enhanced with the cream colored grille and bumpers that contrast with the turquoise and rust. The bed contains nicely finished planks, not overly glossy, interspersed with stainless rails and it\'s overseen by a solid rear window on the cab. 17-inch U.S. Mag wheels maintain a retro look but due to their size, add a bit of modernity at the same time. They carry staggered size tires no older than mid 2021, and exhaust tips protrude just ahead of the rear wheels. The exterior is just about flawless but if we\'re going to be picky, some of the metalwork such as door handles and marker frame have some minor pitting.
Interior
Will it be 1968 or 21st century on the interior? Well, it\'s a bit of both, of course starting with the basic painted door panels with simply a door pull and window crank. Turn to the seats and find more modern black leather bucket seats with red stitching and a center console with cup holders this century demands. Back to \'68 we go with the basic steering wheel, while the oval instrument cluster is fronted by the EFI screen. Following the turquoise metal dash to the right, we find an old school AM radio and vent lever panel. The shifter snaking up from the floor could be from any era and is endlessly classic and the floor itself is covered with clean, black loop carpet. Up top, a light colored perforated headliner resides alongside the visors. Now let\'s go see what year it is under the hood.
Drivetrain
Here we find a clean 300ci inline six cylinder from Jegs according to our consignor and it includes an Offenhauser intake with a Holley Sniper EFI system attached. A 5-speed manual transmission sends power to the Ford 8\" in back. Black headers begin the exhaust process and an aluminum radiator is onboard to cool things off.
Undercarriage
Other than some road splatter, the underside is very clean with some modern touches added. The four wheel power disc brakes are courtesy of Wilwood and the exhaust splits to include Turbo mufflers before exiting east and west. Coil springs live front and back with a 3 link in the back and several chassis stiffening braces are noted as well.
Drive-Ability
This truck\'s height and interior make it feel like a cross between a truck and car, but one peek out back and that attractive bed reminds you, you are indeed truckin\' it. The six cylinder provides decent power and the truck tracks and handles very well. The Sniper does its job while the analog features continue to operate. All told, every function available in this old meets new long bed work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
t\'s an eye catcher, it\'s a conversation piece, it\'s a fun ride. Yes, it\'s the total package and just the right mix of old and new that creates a memorable show piece. Sure, they may be impressed with the clean 2014 Mustang at the car show, but they\'ll be talking about the patinaed flareside long after the show ends, and when you show up again, they\'ll greet you like an old friend, in a new age.
