DESCRIPTION

1959 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible

For consignment, a fabulous finned fifties Sport Fury convertible 2 door fully restored example car. It has the 361ci Golden Commando 395 mill, pushbutton automatic transmission, dual exhaust, swivel bucket seats, a power convertible top and of course would not be complete without the dual antennas. All in very nice condition, Flame Red with a black convertible top, and of course wretched excessive use of chrome. I love it!

Exterior
With this piece of Detroit iron I need to start on the back where a spare tire bump up embossed steel center is within the trunk lid that gently rolls rearward to the rear roll pan. Horizontal oval tail lights float just above a shiny chrome bumper in excellent condition sporting some vertical protector bars, and just below dual exhaust. This is all framed of course by these 6 story high vertical tail fins with chromed edging that basically take on the entire rear quarters all the way to just past the inception of the roofline. On the fins is a contrasting trim spear in white with chromed edging framing the top and bottom. On the back edge of the fins is a large circular jet age badge and \"Fury\" in grandmother\'s handwriting in gold within the white ever widening spear. Dual antennas rise to the sky on either edge just behind the back edge of the convertible top. Speaking of which, we see a black canvas textured vinyl convertible which is like new with a clear plastic rear window, and is powered up and down. Door gaps are pretty good with just a slight mis-alignment with the spear and nice chromed handles and locks. Flame Red adorns these doors, as it does with the rest of the car. It is expertly applied and definitely in the deep end of the pool. Round chromed rear view mirrors adorn the tops of the front quarters just forward of the wrap around chromed edged front glass. These quarters eventually make their way to the canted forward, chromed edged dual visors which protect dual headlights in either side of the egg crate chromed grille. A center badge is within the egg crate excess, and a cursive Plymouth badge is placed neatly on the drivers edge of the long and ultra wide, red painted hood. Below is a large chromed bumper wrapping around the front quarters and sporting a black trim edge, an early sign of the bumper protector perhaps? Wide whitewalls frame dog dish moon cap-esque wheel covers of course in chrome. These tires spec out as 14 inch 8.00 bias plies, which are correct for the era.

Interior
A swing of the doors and we are going to bleed 50\'s styling starting with the doors. The panels start at the chromed sills with textured stitched in a tan, white and red striped pattern tweed for the uppers, and red vinyl curving and streaking through that is housing some small belts inset into the red. Just below is a white vinyl panel with the armrest and it is pristine and not dirty even one iota! For the seats we see an interplay of textured stitched in a tan, white, and red striped pattern tweed for the inserts and red vinyl for the bolsters. An inset \"belt\" is in the center of the backs of the front swivel buckets, and some nifty piping delineates the edges of the broadcloth and vinyl. In the center of the buckets is a wide red vinyl covered fold down armrest which has a built in seat that can carry an extra passenger if needed in the center. Otherwise it serves nicely as an armrest. In back is a corresponding bench in excellent right off the showroom floor condition. All these chairs float in a sea of perfect black carpeting with Fury badged white stitched floor mats. Looking at the dash and steering wheel, things are in tune with the rest of the car\'s design and uses a futuristic V shaped speedo insert panel with more protruding up beyond the dash top fins. Canting on either side is the push button transmission panel, and on the drivers right climate control push buttons. A lineup of various knobs and pulls are in the dash center as is a factory AM radio, lighter, hidden ash receptacle, and a rounded edge square clock. The rear view mirror resides on the center of the dash top. We need a shout out to the steering wheel which uses a wonderful combination of black plastic mixed with clear plastic and a central bar running horizontally through it with some textured chrome. The trunk is completely restored and present in gray felting and some gray vinyl for the wheel well coverings.

Drivetrain
A flip of the under inside insulated hood and we are greeted with a red painted block, gold valve covering and air cleaner covering 361ci Golden Commando V8. It is topped with a single 4-barrel carburetor, and has a Torqueflite 3-speed automatic on back. Way back a 3.31 rear axle puts power to the tires. All perfectly restored and very clean under this large hood.

Undercarriage
Fully restored with some black matte painted undercoating and silver exhaust system and fuel tank and
