1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28
For consignment, a 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28 coupe with an astounding title verified 9,333 actual miles. This garage kept example is all original with our consignor noting only the muffler has been replaced during their stewardship.
Exterior
In pure 80\'s style, this Z is designed with two stage White paint with accents that include black and gold rocker stripes, the coveted IROC decals, and gold embellished 16-inch five spoke wheels. Chevrolet\'s tuned port injection is also advertised modestly under the rocker\'s Z28 badge and if you could read it, the car gained some additional red light street cred back in the day. Distinct hood vents also let challengers know this is no ordinary Camaro and black trimmed tail lights and headlight bezels are also characteristic. Twin chrome tips, angle cut, emerge out back and this one is a solid roof car, thus avoiding the T-top era 80\'s jokes. Overall, the body and paint are in great shape with imperfections noted as a scratch on the nose along with some discoloration, a ding in the cladding on the door, some edge wear, build up around the white side molding, chipped stripe decal, and some chin scuffs.
Interior
Handsome and clean is what we are greeted with when opening the doors, here in Saddle brown panels with diagonal design over carpeted lowers, topped by black switchgear and door handles in pristine condition. Diagonal accenting continues on the cloth bucket seats, tan piping that blends in and smooth inserts. All four seats present nicely and sidewall plastic in back still shines. The three spoke steering wheel fronts a black plastic instrument cluster housing the standard package, spotless, and partnered with a center console that holds the A/C panel and Delco AM/FM/Cassette radio, and all still could be photographed for the 1986 sales brochure and the center console and shifter do not veer from this condition. Nor do the tan carpet and GM branded mats, the smooth headliner, or the rear cargo area that probably has seen more light during our photo session than at any other time. It\'s that clean.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a clean bay housing a 305ci HO V8 with 190 horsepower and fuel injection. It\'s mated to the era-ubiquitous 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the equally common 10 bolt GM rear and 3.23 gears.
Undercarriage
Underneath, we find generally very clean conditions with typical age induced surface rust and coloration, along with some residual oil on the flywheel cover. The single exhaust enters a FlowMaster muffler and exits as two pipes and long, chrome tips. Coil springs are found front and rear with a torque arm in back and the brakes are configured as power disc and power drum, front and rear respectively.
Drive-Ability
We step back in time once again as this \'86 presents as a full on time capsule; it not only looks the part, but the engine fires up and delivers a spirited ride and handling these cars were known for. A comfortable and clean interior provides good visibility and a relaxed posture that\'s mixed with a race-inspired cockpit. The icing on this white cake includes all functions working as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
In the 80\'s we drove F-bodies left over from the 1970\'s. If you went to high school in the 90\'s, you might have been lucky enough to drive a Z28 like this, and you were a really big man on campus if it happened to be an IROC. This may be one of the lowest mileage examples in the country, a well preserved relic of a special time. Collectors and museums take note; not many like this around!
