DESCRIPTION

1970 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Astro Estate Wagon

For consignment, a 1970 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Astro Estate wagon showing 74,893 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a Virginia title exemption. This ultra rare station wagon is an absolute show stopper and the chances of bumping into another one, even at a dedicated Cadillac show, are very unlikely. This one has the correct engine and its numbers matching transmission.

Exterior
Move over Vista Cruiser, another cool GM station wagon just entered the saloon. If you squint, you can envision the profile of a Fleetwood Brougham, but the profile here is bold and long and nicely done in two stage Condor Blue with an ornamental light blue spear vinyl on top of the doors and a padded vinyl top on the wagon\'s roofline. The hood is classically Cadillac of this era; massive in size but artfully contoured to fit between the peaking fenders, each capped by pointed marker lights and Cadillac crests. Up on the roof is a solid sunroof cover and luggage rack for those extra long vacations while 15-inch chrome wire wheels with 75 series tires that have a late 2021 date code serve as the shoes. The smooth tailgate has a vinyl clad header and rests perfectly between the distinctive Cadillac tail lights and the rear window cants forward to match the polished C-pillar. Imperfections include some staining on the hood, pitted metal trim around the markers, remnant tape marks on the sunroof, touch up and filler around the C-pillar, chips, bubbles at the A-pillar, along the side molding and lower areas, hazy etchings several windows, a ding, touched up scratches, filler evident on tailgate, and some metal plating peel.

Interior
Everyone wants to know, does it have a rear facing seat in back? Yes! And it\'s fairly substantial with heavy padding, button ornamentation, and blue leather. While we\'re here we note some rust on the tailgate inner skin. Up front, blue vinyl is mixed with a woodgrain insert that creates very handsome doors with some patina on the front two with some light cracking. The front gets a 70/30 split bench with some wear and cracks on the driver\'s side and the second row is a flat bench, also in nice blue leather and with a few tears. This row enjoys foot rests on the floor over the plush, blue carpet. Up front is the standard dash with horizontal and rectangular features, bathed in a dress plate of woodgrain all the way across. A perforated headliner, and there\'s a lot of it, is in great shape up top and blue, of course and with extra dome lights. The main source of entertainment is an AM/FM radio.

Drivetrain
The clean bay hosts a correct and likely original 472ci V8 with 375 horsepower and a 4-barrel carburetor. It\'s mated to its number matching TH400 3-speed automatic transmission routing power to 2.93 gears in back.

Undercarriage
Clean underneath with a fresh looking single exhaust that runs through a stock style muffler and resonator before terminating out back. Power brakes are here as front disc and rear drum and suspension includes coil springs at both ends with a 4 link in back.

Drive-Ability
It\'s a long way back to the back window when you look in the rear view mirror and if there was ever a car that could use a back up camera, it would be this one! That said, the engine runs well and the ride provided is flat and soft and comfortable. We can\'t speak for the rear facing third row, but most of the car feels like a limousine. We find the radio and sunroof not working but all other functions on this wild wagon work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

We have cars in our inventory the make and model of which Elvis once owned. But his \'74 Deville wagon was the rarest and most unique. Here we have a similar rare and unique vehicle that the crew here at Classic Auto Mall thinks is ultra cool. If you\'re ready to be king, saddle up to this incredible conversion.
