DESCRIPTION
1953 Chevrolet 150 2-Door Sedan
For consignment, a 1953 Chevrolet 150 2-door sedan showing 27 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. This clean example has been modified both externally and internally to create a striking show car with a capable V8 under the hood.
Exterior
Inky two stage Tuxedo Black is the first thing you notice about this car which immediately leads to the realization that the typical 50\'s trim is missing, and in its place, smooth reflective panels now take center stage. It\'s shaved, decked, and nosed and the prominent stainless gravel guards that it came with are gone, creating a streamlined black street machine. Of course, the epic grille is still in place with big chrome, big teeth, and a smooth chrome bumper underscoring it. There\'s also a front fender character line that adds interest and the bulging rear fender that sweep back to smoked tail lights that maintain the dark as night palette. 15-inch wheels are contrasting red with deep dishes in the back tucked well under the fender, staggered in size, and forcing a muscular, raked stance. Imperfections include a few chips, scuffs, inclusions, areas of dullness and scratches but overall the paint and body show nicely.
Interior
Simple black squares serve as the door panels, in decent shape, and housing electric window controls and the opener. Button tufted white bucket seats occupy the front, accented by black buttons and piping, showing a touch of discoloration but fully intact. The rear seats have been deleted, and black panels finish the space. Up front, a Grant GT steering wheel shares the tilt column with a tachometer that partially blocks that standard speedometer but not the row of white faced AutoMeter gauges in a spun aluminum faceplate amongst the glossy black dash. A heater controller has been added, but we note the lack of heater hoses in the engine bay, and there\'s also an AM/FM/Cassette radio to the left of the chrome ribbed motif that continues on to the glove box and it\'s all in very nice condition. We have black carpet on the floor and a Hurst shifter rising from it. A perforated white headliner shows a touch of age and the trunk has a custom cut plywood floor and holds the battery box.
Drivetrain
The glossy underside of the hood creates a mirror effect, reflecting the 348ci V8 below and its dual Carter 4-barrel carburetors. Finned Edelbrock valve covers are on top and headers fall below. The engine is backed by a T10 4-speed manual transmission sending power through 3.23 gears in back.
Undercarriage
Eye popping red covers the gas tank and frame, rear axle, springs, leaf springs, and engine on this clean underside where a stainless system carries exhaust through a pair of Borla mufflers and out through chrome tips. Disc brakes to the job up front and drums are employed out back. A Mustang II front end includes rack and pinion steering and leaf springs suspend things out back.
Drive-Ability
Lincoln-like comfort is provided by the thick bucket seats and a sweet exhaust note is experienced upon start up. We roll this black beauty onto the test loop where it exhibited obvious power underfoot, good shifting, and straight tracking. We\'re on 36 year old tires so won\'t be flogging it and during our short ride, we note the fuel gauge is not working. All other functions operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This is an impressive looking car that sounds great, has a nice powertrain and clean undercarriage. With just two seats, you\'ll have to pick your favorite kid, or leave them all home and take the wife out for date night in this classic cruiser.
