DESCRIPTION

1972 Chevrolet El Camino

For consignment, a 1972 Chevrolet El Camino showing 1,237 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. This was a one family car until 2021, and restored by them in the early 2000\'s including a bit of muscle infused into the 400ci V8 and its accompanying transmission. The show veteran has a long list of wins and awards and has plenty of life for more!

Exterior
You may see black and silver here, but step a bit closer and you\'ll get soon notice the black is actually Black Cherry Metallic and there is lime green and orange accenting that brings this Elky to the next level. An orange bordered green stripe that delineates the main colors, picked up skillfully by the pinstripe flourishes on the hood and tailgate. The hood\'s power bulge is accentuated with coordinating silver paint and once again, orange is employed to surround it in pinstripe form. The handsome grille is flanked by the rounded headlights and corner markers that cap the fenders. A canvas tonneau cover is employed and looks clean and sharp and the tailgate has embedded reverse lights between the corner mounted rear lights. 15-inch polished American Torque Thrust wheels carry heavily staggered size tires that bump up the muscle factor significantly. Imperfections are few and include some chips, and some minor scratches and inclusions.

Interior
The hinged and strutted bed cover rises like a hood and reveals glossy paint in the bed along with a fuel cell, battery, and some tubbed wheel wells. Opening the doors, you\'ll find a two tone motif similar to the outside, with black velour sandwiching stitched gray inserts in a unique and stylish design, mirrored in the split bench seats and both seats and doors are in very nice condition with one stain noted on seats. Attention to detail is noted on the back wall that does not break from the materials and design, here including decorative buttons. It retains its factory appearance up front where the steering wheel enjoys a scripted Chevrolet call out ahead of a decidedly horizontal dashboard, sweeping speedometer, and row of indicator lights. An updated AM/FM radio includes an auxiliary port but holds onto the vintage design and a column shifter leaves the floor open to be fully covered in a nice black carpet. The abbreviated headliner is fully intact and the visors are also in great shape.

Drivetrain
The clean and tidy engine bay holds a period correct 400ci V8, bored .030 over with a Mother Thumper cam and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it you\'ll find a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission with an ATI 3000rpm stall converter routing power to the Ford 9\" with a Detroit Locker rear end with 3.73 gears and S&W Race Cars street/strip axles. You\'ll have the auditory advantage of headers on board and the stopping capability of power brakes, steering made easy with power assistance.

Undercarriage
No stone unturned under here where you\'ll find dual exhaust through MagnaFlow mufflers, power disc brakes up front, and power drums in back. The newer front suspension includes 2 dropped spindles and coil springs while in back you have coil overs and S&W ladder bars. Everything is clean from the polished oil pan to the hardware and new steel construction under the bed.

Drive-Ability
The clean interior sets the mood for this show and go winner, and the big V8 comes to life with a notable exhaust tone, and off we go, steering the front tires around the test loop as the massive meats in back follow suit. Great power, straight tracking and of course, near limitless visibility makes for a pleasant ride as does the fact that everything except the radio is working. If you\'re like us, you\'d rather hear the engine, but just thought you should know! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

This decorated and storied El Camino retired from farm work a long time ago. It\'s been winning awards and accolades since at least 2012 and there\'s no reason to stop now! This is a nicely sorted and well built El Camino worthy of a loving new caretaker.
