DESCRIPTION

1994 MG Custom

Hot rodding was a culture in which a car was taken and basically stripped of essentials to reduce weight and add on a larger engine...RECORD SCRATCH!!!

And now for something completely different. A 1994 MG in hot rod form. Yes, an MG! This creation, no.... amalgamation, no...I\'m left scratching my head, build for lack of a better word, takes a perfectly good 1962 MG body, makes extensive use of a grinder and metal cut saw as well as beginner welding, adds on a Suzuki VI800 motor, throws in a single seat and creates the misadventure you see before you. A car literally will take a mother to love, but it WILL generate conversation. A shocking calamity Grommet!

Exterior
In typical hot rod form, the fenders have been stripped and the front steel of the original car has been discarded allowing us to view the VI 800. A radiator was fashioned and floats upfront, and from firewall to the back end of the creation is pure rank amateur body cutting, re-welding of plates and most likely invasive rust heavily painted over in orange peel textured sky blue. All panels are wrinkled and have been attempted to undergo repair as you can see under the paint. A chrome windscreen frame resides atop the firewall and I can see the remnants of the convertible top frame. 13-inch MG wheels, one with a hubcap are wrapped with 5.20/5.00-13 rubber possibly from the showroom floor in 1962.

Interior
This skate is truly a ride for one, with a single dry rotted bomber style bucket seat in the middle of the thinned down body. You are surrounded by a blue painted steel frame for the floor, and upfront dark blue panels make up the simple dash. A nice addition is the use of blue tape with markers labeling what may be important and essential idiot lights, the shifter to go reverse, and the key turn to start this conflagration. None of the comforts of home are seen here but that\'s a good thing as it\'s all about weight loss.

Drivetrain
Upfront is the gem of a Suzuki motorcycle 805cc V-twin engine which sports dual 1-barrel carbs pushing power to a direct drive system. Careful don\'t get your finger caught in this spinning gear! On the back is a 3.909 rear end, and some white painted dual open exhaust is on either side.

Undercarriage
We see some lightly surface rusted steel throughout which remains unpainted even though that body had to come off at some point. Front independent coil springs and a rear quarter elliptical leaf spring provides the ride.

Drive-ability
Unfortunately I did not get to drive this creation, but I can tell you it runs but will need some extra TLC to be street legal AND get a title. ( Simple stuff like head and tail lights, wipers, signals, inspection etc). While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

I\'m the type of guy who walks into a room filled with poop and looks for a horse, as opposed to the guy who walks into a room filled with toys and cries because I don\'t know which one to play with! That said, for the tinkerer who needs something to do, or the hot rod enthusiast who will truly have a 1 off, (way off), this is your car. As our consignor states for the person who wants to show it off to the country. The question is will they want to look? And in my mind the burning question of WHY?
