While the 1956 Ford Thunderbird is already an irresistible icon, when you're looking for a true all-around classic, you'll instantly focus on this one. This very rare Golden Glow Yellow Thunderbird had a frame off restoration prior to Amos Minter purchasing the car several years ago and finalizing the restoration. With both tops, sparkling chrome, A/C, interior, just look at the bright and clean undercarriage. You know this is a true cut-above classic.
No other car combined sporty, elegant, and all-out cruiser like the first-generation Thunderbird. After all, what other car do you know that has a hood scoop and fender skirts? The distinct silhouette is exactly what we picture when someone mentions the 1950s, and so to make sure this one meets up to our dreams, the iconic brightwork is excellent. The grille, wire wheels, windshield surround, all the trim, and jet-inspired tail lights are all part of a stellar package. And the bullet-nosed bumper is so mirror-like that you'll love watching people check themselves out in it. And of course, all the details are right, too. That's why you have the iconic continental kit that debuted in '56, adjustable side wind deflectors, whitewall tires, and even the exhaust exits through the side of the rear bumper a one-year-only feature. Because this was Ford's personal luxury cruiser, it looks terrific with the black and white interior. After all, nothing says premium like a tuxedo-style presentation. Taut seating, plush carpeting, and intricate door panels tell you all the right investment and care have been made here. Ford's intricate black and chrome factory steering wheel feels great in your hands. Beyond that the backlit speedo is flanked by a large tach and clock. In fact, they have gone to great lengths to keep everything looking correct, right down to the trunk pad. There is one essential upgrade that's a bit harder to spot, but you'll definitely feel. Vintage Air provides a classic-style air conditioner that runs on modern R134a. So this is the droptop that you get to cruise in all summer long and never break a sweat.
This car was fully restored about a decade ago, and it has been treated with great care ever since. And the engine bay is the proof. The bright yellow is continued on the fender walls and firewall. And so the glossy black components make a wonderful standout contrast. Plus, this V8 was treated to the T-bird's correct dress-up kit that includes the bright pie dish air topper and cool Thunderbird logo valve covers. The bold red block of the big 312 V8 looks powerful, and thanks to the Holley four-barrel carburetor, it is absolutely a force! Care and investment in this V8 also means it fires up quickly, idles smoothly, and pulls away confidently from the stoplights. Plus, the power steering and automatic transmission keep this one an effortless cruiser. And as we mentioned before, don't forget to look at the undercarriage photos. There the painted body on the frame not only gives you more of the cool yellow and black presentation, but it tells you how thorough the restoration was. And while you're under there, don't forget to check out the fresh components like the dual exhaust, gas tank, and upgraded adjustable coilovers.
