1986 Lincoln Town Car Cartier Designer Series Sedan
For consignment, a 1986 Lincoln Town Car Cartier Designer Series sedan with a title verified 49,690 actual miles. This car comes out of a large collection and while numbers are not available on Cartier editions, it\'s likely a very small percentage of the 117,000 Town cars built in 1986.
Exterior
The use of two stage Smoke Gray paint was an outward statement of your discerning taste while a darker Landau roof and rocker trim completed the profile which assured that the valet at the country club would not mistake your Town Car for another. The Rolls Royce inspired grille and quad square headlights have a commanding appearance while the reflector strip on the trunk lid connects the taillights for a distinctively Lincoln look. Additional exterior highlights include a double red pinstripe, side coach lamps, rear quarter windows where \"Cartier\" first appears, in gold, and 15-inch turbine style wheels. Imperfections on this boxy luxury car include some black spatter in front, a linear stain on the passenger door, various chips, scuffs, and scratches. Overall, the body, paint and metalwork are in great shape.
Interior
All the doors have gray panels, faux wood applique on the switchgear, a door handle housed in chrome, gray cloth inserts and plush, carpeted bottoms. All appear in nice shape with a single crack in the armrest of the driver. The broad front bucket seats are covered in gray leather with tuck and roll inserts and Cartier logo embroidered mid back. Along with the rear bench, they all show a touch of age with the driver\'s showing more and including a tear. A four spoke leather wrapped steering wheel contains thumb switches ahead of three symmetric squares that make up the digital gauge cluster while a panel of red idiot lights is located left, and the entirety is adorned with simulated burlwood. An AM/FM/Cassette radio is in the center along with the A/C panel and deep gray carpet is topped with Cartier embroidered carpeted floor mats. The soft headliner is like new and the trunk, finished in gray carpet to include the underside of the decklid and latch, is clean.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is the fuel injected 5.0 liter V8 that puts out 150 horsepower. It\'s mated to a Ford AOD 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the Ford 8.8\" rear with 2.73 gears. The engine bay displays in driver quality but clean condition.
Undercarriage
Clean and dry conditions prevail underneath where things are amazingly simple. There\'s some typical surface rust and a light film on the pan, but components are clear and solid with no invasive rust noted. A single exhaust still travels through its original muffler and pipes and our brakes are divided as power disc in front and power drum in back. Suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with a 4 link attached in back.
Drive-Ability
Regarded and remembered as some of the best riding cars in modern times, Lincolns are renowned for comfort and this one doesn\'t disappoint. It has good cruising power and since we\'re on 34 year old tires, we\'re not pushing it. Imperfections include A/C that is inoperable, a power antenna that doesn\'t work, and high beams that work in the flash mode but will not stay on. All other functions operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
The Design Editions were for discerning luxury car buyers who wanted just a little bit more. Today, they\'re a remnant symbol of 80\'s opulence and our fascination with high end brands and recognizable names. The top of the line in 1986 is now an affordable collectible that stands out among the cookie cutter world of modern cars. Styles change, but Lincoln and Cartier are still around, a testament to their greatness.
