This 1987 Mercedes-Benz 560SL represents the quintessential way to enjoy 1980s premium top-down motoring. And so we are especially excited about the investment in this one. We have receipts for about $23k documenting a restoration in 2017 where they freshened this up so that it looks like they turned back the clock to the days before smartphones and satellite navigation. It means you can have a V8-powered grand touring machine that loves discovering new roads and looking stunning upon arrival.
The restoration included a high-quality respray of the factory-correct pewter paint. And while six years is already quite fresh, the level of care that this car has seen means it will put some brand-new restorations to shame. It\'s this attention to detail that\'s also why the body panels are so straight and uniform, too. Of course, a Mercedes of this era is known for continuing to look impressive because of the superior build quality and man-hours that went into forging the sheet metal. Investing in this Benz also means they understood this is rolling sophistication. That means just the right hints of brightwork in places like the bumpers, windshield trim, and distinct tri-star leading the way. Classic alloy wheels, clean wraparound tail lights, and a tan pinstripe are all about distinction through dignity. And speaking of distinction, we love getting the right choice of roofs. The brown soft top is a harmonizing tone against the pewter paint, and the color-matched hardtop gives you a sturdy coupe-like profile.
Of course, our favorite way to present this SL is with no roof at all. The exterior\'s pinstripe is a preview of the full tan interior, and you can see how the restoration budget was used here to keep it looking fantastic. The seats feel fresh, the carpeting is plush, and the wood remains glossy - it\'s exactly how you want a premium classic Benz to be. It\'s loaded with the best features like power windows, a power antenna, cruise control, and the desirable Becker Grand Prix AM/FM/cassette stereo. The air conditioning system also received investments during the restoration though it currently needs serviced and/or parts to function properly again. And because this was built in 1987, there are also more modern safety features than other R107 SLs, such as anti-lock brakes, a third brake light, and a driver\'s airbag.
The fuel-injected 5.6-liter V8 has always had the right power to move this luxury convertible easily. These big motor SLs are known for their grand touring comfort, and the four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and precision-tuned fully independent suspension is a big part of that. This is why we\'re quite happy to see the restoration included replacing motor gaskets, refreshing the suspension, and rebuilding the transmission. That\'s what keeps this one feeling exceptional on the road. Power steering, Dunlop tires, and four-wheel power disc brakes are all part of this solid driving experience.
The sale includes the owner\'s manual packet and restoration/maintenance records. This is timeless elegance done with a proper upper-class vintage presentation. Call now!
