1965 Ford Mustang Hardtop
For consignment, a 1965 Ford Mustang hardtop with 103,366 actual miles. This car was refurbished about three years ago, has air conditioning and a very cool illuminated pony in the grille!
Exterior
In what might be a nod to GT cars, this one features two stage Rangoon Red paint and wide white stripes that run from the front apron, over the hood, continue on the roof, and trail down the deck lid and latch panel where it flanks the iconic Mustang gas cap, finally covering the valance. There are also rocker stripes in white. The 15-inch Styled Steel wheels are a nice compliment here with red center caps and slightly staggered tires that create a nice stance in addition to the slight rake. Up front, the backlit running horse in a coral fronts a hexagon laden grille with inboard fog lights, all underscored by a straight chrome bumper. Imperfections are few and include a ding on a C-pillar, some edge wear, touched up chips, light scratches, and a few other chips.
Interior
Stunning contrast is exhibited on the door panels with white stitched inserts on bold black framing and silver trim and both doors present well. The bucket seats and rear bench also look fantastic, retaining that same black/white palette and have a herd of horses stamped onto each seat back. A black steering wheel with sport horn buttons on each spoke fronts a clean dash that combines a horizontal speedometer with twin circles of the rally pack straddling the steering column, all with attractive white faced gauges. An AM/FM radio is accompanied by an MP3 player and the four vent A/C panel clings to the dash bottom. The familiar T-handled shifter shares the center tunnel with a console that includes cupholders, and a storage compartment that hides a series of digital gauges. The white headliner is in very good shape and the trunk is fitted with a carpeted Mustang mat.
Drivetrain
Black, red, and silver color the engine bay where you\'ll find a 302ci V8 with Edelbrock aluminum heads, a Weiand intake manifold, and an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. It\'s mated to a C4 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the Ford 8\" in back. The car has headers, power brakes, power steering, and air conditioning.
Undercarriage
Clean conditions underneath; rust free and dry. We note one area where the frame has been repaired and reinforced. Meanwhile, dual exhaust run past an H-pipe, then MagnaFlow mufflers, then exit with chrome tips through bezeled openings in the valance. Disc brakes are at all four wheels and Wilwood is employed here. The suspension remains standard as coil springs in front and leaf springs in back.
Drive-Ability
The 302 comes to life eagerly and we run this red ride around the test loop where we find all systems go! No complaints here as everything works and the car does everything well, from using its power to accelerate to using its disc brakes to stop. All good, and this red car gets a green light from us! What\'s black and white and red all over? This Mustang! And she\'s a clean machine in Rangoon Red, ready to make onlookers swoon. Disc brakes, added gauges, air conditioning, and an illuminated grille feature are just icing on this cake. Fantastic presentation of an iconic American car. As they say, it will not last.
