DESCRIPTION

With its outstanding vintage aesthetics thoroughly intact and accompanied by an aggressively lifted stance, this 1974 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser has a distinctive \"ready for action\" appearance that\'s hard to resist. But its appeal extends far beyond its appealing looks. This venerable Land Cruiser rolled off the assembly line at an opportune time, and among collectors in the know, it\'s seen as a sort of bridge between its rugged, early \'70s counterparts and their descendants that followed later in the decade, which arrived with enhanced mechanical capabilities. Check out its classic, round headlights and vintage body markers that serve as reminders of its storied lineage. Beneath the surface, this capable ride harbors a number of functional upgrades that deliver a driving experience you\'re bound to enjoy for years to come.

The black vinyl interior retains its original factory style, with the exception of a pair of aftermarket front bucket seats that are equipped with racing harnesses and are heavily bolstered to provide a nice level of support for more spirited driving. While the rear bench seat could use a bit of revitalization, it\'s still functional in its current state and only adds to this Toyota\'s appeal. This FJ40 holds the promise of lots of fun-filled miles in open-air configuration, but should the weather not cooperate with your plans, its black vinyl top still fits well and is in good overall condition. Up front, the original gauges are still easily readable and are joined by trio of aftermarket displays mounted under the dash to keep a closer read on oil pressure, voltage and operating temperature.

Just a brief test drive will be all that\'s needed to convince you this classic is plenty road ready. It\'s 3.9-liter, inline six-cylinder engine was hailed as a sizable upgrade over its predecessors when it was released and, fed by a Weber two-barrel carburetor, it\'s in fine form here, starting up with no issues and idling smoothly. The accompanying 4-speed H42 manual transmission, considered to be part of the rarest drivetrain configuration for the Land Cruisers of this era, received accolades of its own for its reliability and is in matching condition. The spark plug wires have also been replaced and an upgraded distributor now sits in place of the original to enhance ignition performance.
