DESCRIPTION
1995 Chevrolet Impala SS Sedan
For consignment, a 1995 Chevrolet Impala SS sedan with a title verified 14,039 actual miles. In 1995, three colors were offered including Black, Dark Cherry Metallic, and Dark Green Gray metallic, but this car represents a low mileage example of the most desirable of the three.
Exterior
The earliest Impala ads summoned Darth Vader, letting him know his car was ready. In a bit of corporate osmosis, GM borrowed the success of the Grand National\'s paint scheme and applied it to the long, rounded body of the Caprice based Impala, not even excluding the bumper covers, mirrors or grille to create the impressive profile you see here. Flush, composite headlights front the long, broad hood and out back, the tail lights wrap around the corner in complete alignment with the body, under a subtle spoiler and wide decklid. There is a touch of polished metal circling the cabin side windows and there\'s more contrast in the 17-inch wheels, here with 255/50R17\'s that have an early 2020 date code. Side mirrors have an aerodynamic filler in glossy black while imperfections on this garage kept beauty are limited to a few small chips, scratches, and dings in the driver\'s rocker panel.
Interior
There were no interior option colors on the SS so everyone got the great monochromatic coverage of gray beginning on the door panels where nothing veers from standard GM configuration; simple, efficient and clean and all four doors present nicely here. Big well padded bucket seats live up front with an SS embroidered into the headrests and pleated inserts that remain clean. Two defined sitting areas are stitched in the big rear bench which actually has seating and belts for three. The air bag filled steering wheel fronts a digital speedometer flanked by four square analogue gauges in a black plastic faceplate surrounded by the gray dashboard and it\'s all showroom fresh! The center stack is made special only by the Impala SS badge, otherwise the A/C panel and Delco AM/FM/CD radio is what you\'ll find on millions of cars of the era, and it works together well. There is a center console here, but the shifter would be dropped there until 1996. For now, cupholders and a vintage cell phone reside there, all over clean gray carpet and under the flannel covered gray headliner in great shape. The trunk is large and fully finished by gray cloth panels.
Drivetrain
As expected, clean and stock conditions are found under the big hood where we find the 5.7 liter LT1 V8, fuel injected and rated at 260 horsepower. It\'s mated to a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the 10 bolt rear axle with 3.08 gears and Positraction.
Undercarriage
Age induced surface rust covers the rear axle, driveshaft, and some suspension component parts which are all pretty typical. The dual exhaust has some newer looking parts and travels through Thrush mufflers on their way to the distant exit just under the bumper cover. Just like little brother Corvette, four wheel power disc brakes are on board and suspension includes coil springs at both ends and a 4 link in back.
Drive-Ability
No complaints or surprises here as the 5.7 provides a brisk and spirited ride in this big car. The interior is beyond comfortable and the car tracks straight and allows for a relatively soft ride for a performance car, owing in part to its Caprice roots and former demographic. All functions in this low mileage example work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Here\'s a collector grade Impala SS from 1995 when only 9,858 black ones were produced. Some were later modified, others have high mileage. But this is a mostly stock, barely used version that checks all the boxes for collectability.
