DESCRIPTION

1969 Plymouth BarracudaFastback

For consignment, a Barracuda fastback from Plymouth right out of 1969. This fastback is late 60\'s cool and was meant to be a sleeper car if you will, some light street cred with a triple threat stripe on the sides, and Scorch Red on the body panels, and now a 340ci V8. Restored bumper to bumper by noted Mopar restorer Jim Stowell from Cloquet, Minnesota. Turn the key and go and show.

Exterior
Scorch Red has been applied over meticulously stripped and ironed out panels, particularly the doors which according to the consignor had more dings than a Tijuana Taxi!. All steel is now minding its gaps very nicely. The paint is in the deep end of the pool and chrome was triple sanded, steel wooled and then polished to bring it back. In front a dual opening grille houses the parking/turn signal lights and the single round headlights. A nicely preserved bumper frames underneath the twin grilles. Wheel well molding accentuates the lower body nicely and 14-inch Mopar Rally wheels. Grocery getter sized 235/70R14\'s from 2008 are around the rally wheels. The highlight of this car is the long gently sloping rear window and rounded over triangular B pillar which transitions into the rear deck gracefully and seamlessly. A slightly swept back and down tail light trim surrounds and satin silver dressed tail light deck with another clean bumper below and dual exhaust tips on the bottom and we have the Barracuda presentation.

Interior
Prior to the restoration someone had already put this interior to a restoration, so it was taken out for the bodywork and paintwork, then replaced. Red door panels which have red painted sills, and horizontal embossed ribbed vinyl lowers create the perfect background for the black armrest and shiny actuator and crank. The front buckets are excellent, as well as the factory unmodified dash. Racing between the buckets is the red carpeted hump and in its drive to the dash we find a Hurst shifter with white ball topper. The original radio is an and of course all correct. A squared off 3 spoke brushed metal and square hole drilled steering wheel has a leatherette wrapping around the rim in black. The rear bench does fold down for extra storage, and full access to the fastback area. All red carpeting is looking great and like new, with some slight fading below the hatchback glass. A perfect red vinyl headliner is above.

Drivetrain
A 340ci Mopar V8 circa 1968-1973 is in the engine bay and just gleaming and clean. Bathed in Hemi Orange, this mill sports a 4-barrel carburetor along with an A833 4 speed manual transmission and sends power to a 3.23 geared 8 3/4\" rear axle. The engine bay presentation is nothing short of stunning with smoothed over inner fenders in deep red, and black cast ribbed Mopar Performance valve covers. A chromed open circular air cleaner is on top. Dual factory style exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers are on for the exhale. During the restoration the engine was given the once over and all checked out fine. Gleam glitz and glamour and soft supple hoses. Fish ON!!

Undercarriage
Structurally sound and paint as nice and red and polished as the topside, it\'s a show car. Up front we note an independent torsion bar front suspension and new drum brakes. In the back we see leaf springs and drum brakes. Get the mirror over here we need to show this undercarriage off!

Drive-Ability
This car lit right up, and we were off to the test track. We put her through the paces, and it handled nicely, had solid acceleration, and was a comfortable cruiser. An A+ updated ride here, so much so that I opted for a third lap around our fabled test track. The brake lights were darkened, turn signals not signaling, and the speedometer was not showing any reading.

1 of 17,788 fastbacks built for the 1969 model year, and to be presented in such a nice condition this could be seriously considered a find. When one thinks of the Barracuda you could only see it as a fastback, and here we have it gracing the halls of Classic Auto Mall. I\'m hooked, how about you? Bring me in the boat!
