Few cars in the history of the autoverse elicit as many fantasies from enthusiasts as the Shelby Cobra. Although the original car has long since ceased production, thankfully, incredible replicas are still being made today, such as this 1965 Shelby Cobra Factory Five. Painted in a racy black-and-red color scheme, this has just 6,042 miles on its odometer since it was built, leaving miles of fun and excitement for its next lucky owner.
Inside, the black vinyl seats and dashboard are contrasted by a wood-rimmed, three-spoke steering wheel that offers no power assistance. A trick offset black-faced gauge cluster, featuring an 8,000-rpm tachometer and a signature 180-mph reverse speedometer, broadcasts only the most essential information to the driver, while the reverse-mount theme continues with the original-style shifter. Simpson racing harnesses and a driver\'s roll-bar are to be considered essential amenities when approaching a race car for the street, like this Cobra.
Under the reverse-hinged hood, we find a naturally aspirated 347 cubic-inch overhead valve stroker V-8 engine. Beneath the Cobra-embossed air cleaner and 347ci-embossed valve covers lies a single four-barrel carburetor that feeds that V-8 before sending spent exhaust gases through a set of long-tube headers connected to those incredible-sounding side pipes. That classic power is then sent through a tried-and-true Tremec TKO five-speed manual transmission, allowing you to experience this Cobra as it was meant to be, with the added benefit of an overdrive highway gear.
