DESCRIPTION

1959 Turner MK1 Roadster

For consignment, a 1959 Turner MK I roadster with the true miles unknown as there is no speedometer. Long term ownership by our consignor includes his restoration from \"a basket case\" that took place between 1997 and 2000, prior to which the floors and sill were replaced by Val Burel Racing in New Jersey. This is a competition car and this car has been tracked at VSCCA events for the past 20 years and comes to you with log books.

Exterior
MK1\'s were introduced in 1957 with a new body style that would become known as the Turner shape, unique amongst British roadsters with a front lip over the wide horizontal grille and a curved shoulder line capped by headlights up front and two color, two part tail lights, and rounded, bumperless rear apron. On the track or on the street, there will be no missing this bright yellow little car and its tall roll bar, all perched on 15-inch knock off wire wheels with 4.50L-15 tires that have a mid 2022 date code. Relatively small lids fit both the bonnet and boot, with edges well within the lightweight bodywork and hood pins on the front. There\'s a robust tow hook up front, a small windscreen, and a fuel door just behind the cabin. Imperfections on the is track proven car include flex cracks and checking throughout, chipped paint, and a taped repair featuring yellow duct tape.

Interior
Simple black vinyl door panels hide the otherwise hollow doors and actuator mechanism. Inside, a black vinyl bucket seat with racing harness and a supportive structure awaits the driver while a less technical bucket occupies the shotgun position. The sport steering wheel fronts a dash also covered in grain vinyl and home to a series of race ready gauges and toggle switches along with an open cubby. The floor is barren and the central tunnel holds the shifter in the ready and it\'s dressed in black vinyl. The roll bar brace is mounted in the passenger footwell and behind the passenger seat. The trunk is occupied by a Fuel Safe eight gallon cell fitted with a new bladder in 2023.

Drivetrain
Up front is a 1098cc inline four cylinder, bored .040 over and packing an APT race cam, Venilia 11-1 pistons, a head worked by R&W Engineering and is cooled by an aluminum radiator. It is fueled by 2 Su carburetors fed by a Facet fuel pump, and mated to a close ratio 4-speed manual transmission by Quantum Mechanics sending power to the limited slip rear with 4.88 gears and Winner\'s Circle competition rear axles.

Undercarriage
The original steel tub is evident along with the impressive ladder bar and tubular frame on this clean underside. Drum brakes are managed by a Tilton/Girling dual circuit master cylinder and are composed of 9\" Alfin front drums and 7\" rear drums from a Sprite. Suspension includes coil springs in front and a 5 link, torsion bars and a panhard bar out back along with Spax adjustable shocks. The single exhaust runs along the driver\'s rocker and through a stock style muffler.

Drive-Ability
Don\'t mind if we do! Tight cornering, spirited power, and immediate throttle reaction and steering wheel feedback; all a recipe for a fun time on the track. All functions availed the driver work as they should and we bypass the pits and head right to the showroom! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

This is one of 160 MKI built for 1959 and 1960 making it a rare model of a manufacturer that produced less than 1,000 cars in total. Here\'s one that\'s fully prepared for the track and vintage racing; all you need is a trailer and a plan!
