Exterior
The classic lines of the 911 look good in any color, but many prefer black and we\'re not going to argue at all. Protruding headlights flank a rising hood that coasts almost seamlessly into the windshield. The roofline is flat, temporarily, then takes an epic dip to the rear creating a short, pointed tail that sheds wind after borrowing some of it to cool the engine through a grille in the stern. Capping the rear is the light bar that connects the tail lights and spells out the magical brand name, all underscored by Americanized bumpers. And because you don\'t really have to brag, the Carrera call out is black, almost ghost-like on the decklid. 16-inch BBS wheels in gold are a superb choice here and their polished rims provide ideal contrast. Imperfections are few with some blemishes in the clear on the front hood, a nasty and sizable scuff by the passenger door, and a cut in the extended bumperette.
Interior
Handsome and efficient door panels include diagonal stitch design insert, minimal hardware, and a small storage bin and both present cleanly. The leather bucket seats are classically configured, pure Porsche with tall, narrowing headrests built in and the leather is in great shape. The suggested seats in back consist of pads of the same color and material as the front and look unused. Up front, the H-patterned Porsche steering wheel leads to the legendary 5-gauge cluster up ahead with everything you need to know including the time. An AM/FM/Cassette stereo in the center with some climate control knobs at the top of the center console where you\'ll also find the joystick. Black carpet loosely covers the floor in the footwells and also lines the front truck, and it\'s all clean and ready to go!
Drivetrain
Out back is the 3.2 liter SOHC air cooled flat 6-cylinder putting out 207 horsepower and receiving fuel through the Bosch Motronic EFI system. The 5-speed manual has a new clutch as mentioned and sends power to the rear axle with 3.88 gears. The bay combines some very clean components with those showing some evidence of use, but solid construction and nothing out of place.
Undercarriage
Signs of use here as well with some old grime and oxidized metals. The aerodynamic pan is clean and intact. Power disc brakes are provided to each wheel and dual exhaust runs through an original muffler which sends out a single exhaust. Suspension includes torsion bars at both ends with Macpherson struts in front and trailing arms in back.
Drive-Ability
This freshly serviced 911 delivers a ride fit for a legend. Compact, fun, and fast, the car tracks straight and handles on rails and is as nimble as a track car. We note the radio and clock are not working but all other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
This is one of those cars that come with a waiting list and as a result, will likely not last long at the mall. It checks all the boxes; black, low mileage, air cooled, and oh yes, Porsche. After all, there is no substitute.
