DESCRIPTION

1964 Buick Special 2-Door Sedan

For consignment, a 1964 Buick Special 2-door Sedan with a title verified 120,804 actual miles. This handsome car was the entry level Buick back in the day with a straight forward design that lacked the ornamental frivolities of other models, however the venti-ports remain! This car has new items to make it a nice, classic runner.

Exterior
An astounding fifteen colors were available in 1964 including this, can\'t miss Granda Red, now in two stage application which, at distance, looks good on this car. The A-body is so nicely proportioned, it\'s striking in its simplicity. A central trim piece carries from one end to the other with the iconic simulated venti-ports ride the front fenders. There\'s trim that encircles the rear fascia for a little extra allure while the conservative tail lights and contouring bumper finish off the look. Up front, it\'s unmistakably Buick with subtle configuration that retains the family familiarity with Buick spelled out below the Tri-Shield hood ornament. 15-inch Cragar SS wheels give it some old school street cred and 65 series tires all around mean a proper, square stance. Stepping closer we note imperfections that include solvent distortion on horizontal surfaces, inclusions throughout, dull deck lid filler panel, off color touch ups on chips and scratches, evident body work and overspray, dinged trim and body, hood alignment issues, and scuffs.

Interior
Silver door panels are treated with Buick\'s typical bit of flair and elegance and delineated sections that include a scroll detail. ProCar front bucket seats in black vinyl are in great shape and are a decent complement to the stock grain vinyl bench in back, flanked by ribbed silver walls and ivory armrests. The two spoke Buick steering wheel has a nice rim wrap, and fronts a sweeping speedometer next to turned aluminum faceplate where the Custom Auto sound AM/FM radio resides. Below that, a series of introduced AutoMeter gauges are in place while a glossy black glove box lives ahead of the passenger. A cupholder console and fire extinguisher live on the transmission tunnel over nice, black carpet. The headliner is a bit droopy but intact, and the trunk is lined with a plaid mat and holds a spare steelie.

Drivetrain
Under the hood, a clean and original presentation of a 225ci Fireball V6, rated at 155 horsepower and fueled through a 1-barrel carburetor. It\'s mated to an TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the 10 bolt rear axle with 3.08 gears. Power brakes and power steering are on board.

Undercarriage
The clean new gas tank heads up a nice and dry underside with some typical surface rust but clear components and no dirt. We have power disc brakes up front and according to our consignor, it\'s a Summit kit. Power drums are in back. Dual exhaust runs cleanly through stock style mufflers and exits out back with visible tips. Suspension includes coil springs front and rear with a 4 link out back. According to our consignor, the front suspension and steering linkage is newer.

Drive-Ability
Clean and comfortable, this former commuter car takes us on our way around the test loop and performs with flying colors, mostly red! It tracks straight, handles well, and stops on demand. We find the radio not working but all other functions on this straight forward GM product work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Sure, it\'s just a V6, but remember when they laughed at the Grand National? Sure, different technology but this red runner is a solid car that proves you don\'t have to be extra special to be classic. But if you\'re a Special from 1964, it\'s a guarantee. Here\'s a great opportunity to get into the car hobby with a great looking car that has been modded to death!
