DESCRIPTION

1957 Chevrolet 3200 Pickup

The Chevrolet Task Force was Chevrolet's successor to the Advance Design series. The Task Force Series ran from late 1955 (second series) through 1959. At GMC dealers, it was called the Blue Chip Series. Designed by Ned Jordan, Chevrolet's Task Force pickups blurred the line between passenger cars and trucks. They were more comfortable and roomier than previous Chevy trucks, and they offered stylish features like a wraparound windshield, hooded headlights, and an egg-crate grille.

For consignment, a nicely buttoned up 3200 Pickup from Chevrolet and right out of 1957. A few changes in the powertrain, some convenience options added to the interior, and a pale pink hue covering most of it. Appearing from the side view as a mild custom but retaining all the factory body lines. A customized truck, with decent paint and the ability to rip it up a bit and haul some stuff or just some ass!

Exterior

Presenting in a pale pink but showing signs of cracking, crazing, bodywork, and rust peeking through especially on the tailgate. A white roof with a matching white visor set off the lower sea of pink and make for a great 1950's paint scheme. Hooded hi output headlights flank either side of the chrome horizontal and vertically barred grille and bumper below. All trimmings of chrome have long since been removed except for the door handles and mirrors. A bulbous hood sans badges or ornamentation now sports a teal and orange flourish in pinstripe form. These same colors work on both front fenders with a "'57 Chevrolet" callout and swoop pinstripe. For the back of the truck, it's all bed in styleside form with the obligatory chrome exhaust pipes peeking out in front of the rear tires. Mahogany stained boards make up the bed floor and are separated by stainless ribbing. More of the pinstriping surrounds the Chevrolet embossed tailgate with heavy paint wear showing on the V, R, and O. 15-inch chrome 5 spoke wheels are all around with Cooper Cobra raised white letter rubber.

Interior

A complete redux with tweed broadcloth and white vinyl for the door panels with shiny handles and nonfunctional power window switches, hint, they're still crank style. Inside a refreshed bench with more gray tweed and white vinyl and both sides with an embroidered Chevrolet bowtie. This seat is very clean and floats in an ocean of black carpeting. Fronting this is an original laid out dash in pale pink and ivory, with the original knobs and pulls but with the added bonus of a Vintage Air heater/AC panel. A later model steering column with a 3 spoke black vinyl rimmed wheel is seen. Above is a custom headliner in dark charcoal with a small square pattern in broadcloth.

Drivetrain

A flip of the big bulbous hood and floating in the center of a cavernous black engine bay is a consignor-stated 327ci V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor and aluminum intake manifold on top. A TH350 transmission is on back and it is a 3-speed automatic which pushes power rearward to the rear tires via a 12-bolt rear axle. Power steering is on as are power brakes. Keeping it all cool is an aluminum radiator with accordian texture polished hoses.

Undercarriage

A strong rust free frame gives support to all the underside components. Independent coil springs for the front suspension and leaf springs provide the ride in the rear. We note some prior repairs on the cab corners and underside of the cab steps. Some invasive rust is rearing its head in these areas again and should be tended to. Dual exhaust sends spent gasses past Cherrybomb mufflers before exiting in front of the rear wheels. Power front disc brakes in the front and power drums in the rear provide the Whooah factor.

Drive-Ability

This truck roared to a start and accelerated like it was on fire to the test track and on it as well. It handled beautifully and came to a quick stop thanks to the upgraded brakes. The recovered seat is almost heavenly, and the gauges galore always want to draw your eyes to the dash.

A nice build showing some age in areas but nothing horrible. A newer era engine, power accessories, and a comfy interior. A neat looker and a hot cooker, we give you the 1957 Chevrolet 3200 pickup, ready to haul your car show gear or ass!
