DESCRIPTION

This 1948 Studebaker Commander Land Cruiser is restored to be exactly the way it was when it came off the assembly line. The only thing I added was directional lights. There was no body putty used during the restoration. All the worn out body parts were replaced by New Old Stock (NOS) parts. If you are interested, email me and I will send you a fact sheet which describes the car in detail. I can also send you pictures.

1948 Studebaker Facts
1. This is a 1948 Studebaker Commander Land Cruiser. It has 49,800 original miles.
2. It is painted Iroquois Blue. Iroquois Blue is the original factory color.
3. It has a 260 cubic inch, 6 cylinder, 94 horsepower engine.
4. The interior, including the headliner, door panels, seats, and carpeting are all restored
to exactly the same color as they were when the car came off the assembly line.
5. The steering wheel and dashboard are original equipment.
6. The engine is the original. It has a rebuilt starter, rebuilt generator, new points and
plugs, new spark plug wires, new distributer cap, new belt and hoses, and the radiator
was rodded and painted by a professional radiator service.
7. The trunk has been restored to exactly the same way it looked when it came off the
assembly line.
8. The wheels have been painted. The hubcaps are new and they match the original
equipment hubcaps. The tires are new wide-whitewall radial tires.
9. There is no body putty on the vehicle. All four doors, fenders, and hood have been
replaced by NOS (New Old Stock) parts purchased from Studebaker International. An
NOS part is one that was originally manufactured by Studebaker. When Studebaker
went out of business, Studebaker International bought the engine and body parts and
continues to sell them.
10. The old wiring has been replaced by a new (NOS) wiring harness purchased from
Studebaker International.
11. The Studebaker has “Hill Holder.” This accessory comes in handy if you are going up a
hill and have to stop for a red light. Hill Holder will not let the car go backwards down
the hill.
12. The Studebaker has an “Overdrive” manual transmission.
13. The exhaust system, including the muffler, is all new.
14. The front suspension was checked by suspension professionals. The parts that needed
replacement were replaced by NOS parts purchased from Studebaker International
and replaced by the professionals in the suspension shop.
15. All the chrome has been newly plated by a professional plating shop in Duluth.
16. The windshield and the side windows are all new.
17. The only thing on the car that is not original equipment is the directional light /hazard
light system…modern drivers do not know the meaning of the old-time hand signals.
The directional light switch is chrome and matches the dashboard chrome.
18. The radio works but it will only pick up nearby stations.
19. For a Studebaker of this vintage, there is no “Blue Book” value that I know of. So
when it comes to discussing selling price, we will look at the professional classic car
appraiser’s report. Then we will look at how much the insurance company insured the
car for after their appraisal. We will look at the paid receipts for the parts and labor.
20. I suspect that the selling price will be lower than you think it will be.
