Chrysler's most expensive car in the lineup for 1970 was the 300-H Hurst Edition. It's where a large and luxurious A/C interior was married to a big 440 V8, and it was all wrapped in one of the most distinctive bodies of the time. So to find such a correct and original example means it's your opportunity at one the coolest classic coupes going.
By 1970 Chrysler's ultra-premium letter-series was over, but with a long and sleek design like the 300 coupe, many thought it was due for a revival of the ultra-premium American boulevard royalty. The result was the 300-H Hurst car. It revived a tradition of ultra-desirable special Hurst cars as Spinnaker White coupes were sent to Hurst to get a Satin Tan artfully laid on top to make this akin to other Hurst specials, like the Olds. This special two-tone was expertly re-sprayed on this example, and those who know these cars will really love the details. That's why you have the full pinstripe package that creates a boarder in all the most distinct places including on the special road wheel package! Hidden headlight, form-fitting chrome bumpers, and an overall road-owning stance made this 300 great, so they made sure that this example continues that look. But what only a specialty company could create was the truly sporty look that forms the special fiberglass hood with twist locks and a large scoop (it even has Hurst's famous "H" in the bulge.) Out back is a true work of art with a custom trunklid that turned those sharp fenders into a racecar-worthy integrated spoiler.
While the exterior was full of sporty specialty components, the interior was all about providing pure luxury. The pillow-top tan leather is borrowed from the regal Imperial line. Much of this well-coordinated interior is believed to be original there are even great details like the factory steering wheel and AM radio that's still cranking out tunes. And the condition of it all tells you this premium Chrysler was treated with respect for decades. This makes for a great classic to share with family and friends. After all, there are modern SUVs that don't offer this much legroom front and rear. Plus, there are fold-down armrests to give everyone individual comfort. The front seats power adjust for your comfort; there are power windows; and you even get to stay comfortable with cold factory air conditioning. This Hurst is a true high-class cruiser.
Under the hood is the original 440 cubic-inch V8. They made a solid investment keeping the engine bay looking correct. The bold orange block, matching valve covers, big TNT air topper show off a very correct engine bay stuffed with power. The big block is topped with a correct Carter four-barrel carburetor in this application, and the Hurst cars were given an upgrade in horsepower over the rest of the premium 300 line. Plus, this one is allowed to make even more power thanks to a long tube header upgrade that feeds the sweet rumble of the H-pipe dual exhaust. The Torqueflite A727 three-speed automatic transmission is the ideal pairing because it's stout enough to handle the power while also settling into easy cruising. That's especially true for this one that was rebuilt in 2009. Plus, power steering and front disc brakes all add up to a big classic coupe you can enjoy any time.
