1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz

We are selling this one family owned low mileage 1978 Eldorado. In 2018 the son transferred the car for his mother to himself after mom stopped driving. While mom is still with us, they have decided to sell the car that they have kept garaged from new. Recently the car had its deteriorated bumper fillers replaced. As most of them cracked simply from age. The Vouse tiers appear to be original to the car. It was always a second car and garaged. Carpets were always covered with mats and are like new. Paint is in very good original condition with some minor flaws and scratches. The A/C is inop as the compressor does not engage.

Another rolling barometer of success during the Me Decade was Cadillac\'s Eldorado. This coupe has 425 cubic inches of V-8 power under its hood! By the dawn of the Disco Era, the Eldorado was a large coupe amid the downsizing craze. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this 1978 Eldorado Biarritz.

Made in Cadillac\'s Detroit, Michigan factory (VIN code Q) during the second week of May 1978, this car left the assembly line with the following options cruise control (code C); custom Biarritz package (code B); electronic leveling control (code L); dual front comfort 50/50 front seats (code W); door edge guards (code D); six-way power front passenger seat (code V) and a Guide-matic headlight control (code U).

Finished in Cotillion White (code 11), the car\'s paint and trim are in satisfactory shape while its vast bodywork is straight and solid. The matching Elk Grain Cabriolet padded roof is in similar shape to the paint. Under that gargantuan hood, the engine bay is very tidy and the Super Start battery appears new while the car\'s chrome bumpers are in very good order.

Also under that huge hood are a 425 CID V-8 engine with a four-barrel carburetor and high-energy ignition (HEI) system, which drives the front wheels. Connected to the engine is a Turbo Hydramatic 425 three-speed automatic transmission with a 2.73:1 final drive ratio. As expected in a Cadillac, the car\'s driver convenience features are lengthy. Automatic climate control, power steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, cruise control, power windows, power locks, power six-way 50/50 front seat, remote-control driver\'s sideview mirror, rear window defroster, three-speed wipers, remote trunk release, Soft Ray tinted glass and a power antenna.

This Cadillac rests on whitewall Vogue Tyre Custom Build Radial VIIs, size 205/75R15 at every corner. They are mounted on steel wheels topped with body-color wheel covers. The tires are in good shape while the wheel covers are in good, original order.

Inside, the luxurious touches continued. The white bench seats, the dual front comfort 50/50 and the rear bench are in good, original order, as is the rest of the interior. The carpet and dashboard are dressed in Dark Carmine while the headliner is contrasting in white. A Dark Carmine two-spoke steering wheel looks good as do the white inner door panels with Dark Carmine trim. A column-mounted shifter and factor Delco AM/FM radio completes the interior.

For 1977, the Eldorado received a new grille with a finer crosshatch pattern. New vertical taillamps were relocated to the bumper-fender extensions. New \'Eldorado\' block-lettering appeared on the hood face and new rectangular side marker lights with \'Eldorado\' block-lettering replaced the \'Eldorado\' script on the rear fenders. The mammoth 500 CID V-8 of 197076 gave way to a new 425 CID V-8. For the first time in 1977, all GM E-body cars were front-wheel drive, as the Riviera underwent a two-year hiatus before joining them in 1979. A new grille was the only Eldorado\'s major change for 1978.

Competition to this Eldorado in 1978 included BMW\'s 3.0 CS, Buick\'s Riviera, Chrysler\'s Imperial, Jaguar\'s XKE Series III V-12, Jensen\'s Interceptor, Lincoln\'s Continental Mark IV, Mercedes-Benz\'s 450 SLC, Oldsmobile\'s Toronado, Rolls-Royce\'s Corniche and Stutz\'s Blackhawk.
