DESCRIPTION

In the annals of the autoverse, there is a handful of cars that tend to get an inordinate amount of criticism and ridicule. Due to either bad marketing or some production quirk, many of these cars are unfairly portrayed, and their true personalities are often hidden from the general public until those same people actually get behind the wheel. This 1980 Ford Pinto is a shining example of a car whose name may elicit one set of feelings, while the car itself shows us a considerably freer and more fun vehicle than expected. This Turquoise pearl-painted is eye-catching from any angle, and the roof rack, complete with a bright orange surfboard, not-so-subtly hints at this car\'s carefree spirit.

Inside, the trend continues with a myriad of custom stickers and patches across the dashboard and windows. The multicolored spray-painted carpet and interior trim panels add plenty of personality, while the front seats have been replaced by cloth units encased in pink and grey patterned seat covers.

Under the hood, we find a 2.3-liter inline-four-cylinder engine. While we can verify for sure that it is the original unit, it is a date-correct block (from a 1979-1981 2.3-liter I-4). A Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection system handles fuel management, while a single side pipe exhaust does away with spent gasses. A four-speed AOD automatic transmission takes power from the engine and sends it off to the rear wheels.

Fourteen-inch five-point wheels sit shod in 185/65R-14 rubber up front and bigger 235/60R-14 tires out back. Hidden behind those wheels are a set of disc brakes up front and mechanical drums in the rear. This 1980 Ford Pinto was formally owned by a Vietnam Vet who built it as a fun car he could enjoy whenever he wanted. Now, it is up for sale, and it isn\'t hard to feel the peppy and quirky spirit this car has from bumper to bumper, just waiting for the right kind of fun-seeking owner to look past its name, and love it for the car it was (re)built to be.
