1955 Studebaker President State Coupe - A real ''''Survivor''''
How many ''''55''''s have you looked at that have been modified in one way or another? If you are a hard core Studebaker enthusiast you can easily spot some of the changes made to those cars and hopefully question the quality and safety of those alterations. Sellers advertise their car as a President, but the insignia between the two instruments is from a Commander.
They say it''''s a President, but it''''s missing the front fender birds. They claim it''''s a President but the engine has a two barrel carburetor. Who the heck made the changes? What kind of condition was that car in before these modifications were made? Were the modifications made by a qualified mechanic or a competent, skilled body man? Then when you call the seller to ask some specific questions, they claim they don''''t know much about mechanical stuff and can''''t provide answers to your questions. Is it going to be safe to drive??
This particular car is a REAL ORIGINAL 1955 Studebaker President State Coupe. Remember, cars are only original once! This one is a genuine survivor! The only things not factory original are the wheels and it''''s paint which was done only once in 2001. The car was sold new in Louisiana. I have the build sheet and the small "Dealer Service Policy for Studebaker owners" that the original purchaser was given at the time of purchase. The later shows the original purchaser''''s name and address, and is signed by the selling dealer''''s Service Manager with a Jan 31, 1955 date. It was later taken in trade in the early 60''''s. The dealer who took the car in trade loved the car and kept it for himself
. He became ill in the early 70''''s and last registered the car in 1972. When he died the car passed to his son and was kept it in an enclosed facility until I bought it. The son sold it because he was moving across the country. He repainted the car its original colors and the paint work was quite decent. When I bought the car it had just a hair over 65,000 miles on it. The brakes have been completely redone and everything works as it should except the dome light. The WCFB carburetor which I doubt was ever rebuilt
even still has the original colors, and still wears the brass tag with the original production date code. It not looks great but also runs extremely well. Is it perfect? No! Is it rust free? Yes! Is this the one you should buy? YES! I am willing to discuss the price~!
