1962 Mercury Comet Gasser
The term \"Gasser\" was coined in the 50\'s and applied to heavily modified drag racing cars. The name derives from the fact that they raced in the gasoline fueled class as opposed to the methanol or nitro classes. Before the days of \"Pro Stock\" these were the fastest stock appearing hot rods you would see at the track. Being primarily focused on racing their appearance featured a lifted front end for better weight distribution on acceleration and were often modified with weight reduction techniques. They also commonly had engine swaps and heavily customized suspensions all with the intention of getting them down the track faster than their competitors. This very cool Gasser is based on the 1962 Mercury Comet which was named after the space race that was getting every ones attention at the time. The flat Black paint is combined with Red accents on the hood and fits look very well. It has some old school lettering in various places and on the sides display its name \"The Comet Flash.\" The rear bumper is still in place but the front bumper has been removed. The grill has also been customized to remove one of the double headlights following with the weight reduction tactics of back in the day. The car has Cragar wheels up front and custom Drag wheels in the back with Firestone Drag slicks.
The swapped out 454 big block motor is proudly displayed through the hood being topped off with a tunnel ram and dual quad Holley carburetors. The motor has plenty of power and is kept cool with an aftermarket aluminum radiator. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and the car has also been upgraded with disc front brakes.
The interior of the car has been entirely redone in a very cool vintage Red and White color combination. The bench seats are done in Tuck and Roll pleats which really suits the overall style of the car. The door panels have been totally stripped and redone with aluminum panels. The dash has been kept mostly original with its original radio and gauges. A second gauge pod has been added below for the Temp, Volt, and Oil pressure gauges. It also has a Power Level Mark II A&E System in place to provide switches for things like the fuel pump. In front of the driver sits and aftermarket tilt column and steering wheel done in Black and Red.
This is well built cool classic that that has a lot going for it.
This cool gasser could be in your garage for $24,900.00!
