DESCRIPTION

1970 Plymouth Road Runner Hardtop

For consignment, a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner hardtop showing 76,785 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. In the golden age of muscle cars, particularly in 1970, you had your choice of high performance cars with big power, and a good number of those were in B-body form from Dodge and Plymouth.

Exterior
Here we have a striking combination of two stage Sunfire Yellow paint, a matte black hood stripe, and the brown dust trail disguised as a side stripe, kicked up by the cartoon bird on the nose. It\'s as if the bird escaped from the vent on the sail panel from which the coyote has yet to emerge. The menacing front fascia, a three dimensional expression muscle car is heightened by the stylish double bar tail lights and a laser straight chrome bumper. A power bulge reveals engine displacement not on the side but on the cowl facing rise just ahead of the louvers. In lieu of flying buttresses, the rear window is a design masterpiece with a curved bottom edge that is downright artful, and the 15-inch Mopar Rally wheels are the perfect complement to it all. Imperfections on the outside include some chips, weathered and gashed bumper trim, scratches, bubbles, paint runs, and panels that are not perfectly matched.

Interior
Black is the inside palette, beginning on the doors with painted header piece over striped vinyl panels and simple and gray accent line. This two tone black and gray translate nicely to the split bench seat which is in fabulous condition and the rear seats are show quality. The road runner is looking back at you from the center of the black steering wheel and the dashboard is in fine condition with textured plastic, offset gauges, and an AM/FM radio. Our black carpet looks great and the iconic pistol grip Hurst shifter rises boldly from the transmission tunnel and the plastic grips are a nice contrast to clean interior color. Paint on the underside of the decklid is bubbling and peeling in places but remains nice on the floor under the vinyl mat.

Drivetrain
The super clean bay is home to a 512ci stroker V8 with a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy cam, 440 Source Stealth heads, and a 4-barrel carburetor over an Edelbrock intake. It\'s backed by a rebuilt A833 4-speed manual transmission supplied with a McLeod clutch and routing power to the 8 inch rear with 3.23 gears. TTI Headers and power steering are on board.

Undercarriage
Generally clean underneath with only slight patina on the flooring, suspension and unibody, but no rust is seen. Drum brakes occupy all four corners and suspension consists of torsion bars up front and leaf springs in back.

Drive-Ability
The 440 based stroker first up with an impressive exhaust note and carries us around the test loop with excellent power and straight tracking. Shifts are smooth, braking is good, and all functions within this classic B-body operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

For some, it\'s Mopar or no car and looking at this one, it\'s easy to see why. Broad shoulders, a big engine, and the serious smirk on front means this classic will never go out of style. Hard to believe that people drove these cars daily back in the day, but it\'s true! Now, they\'re special enough to be garage queens pulled out for special occasions, cruise nights, and car shows. This one fits the bill!
