DESCRIPTION

1970 Plymouth Road Runner Hardtop

For consignment, a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner hardtop with a title verified 21,864 actual miles. It has a date correct engine, a numbers matching transmission, an inspection sticker from the Bicentennial year, and a well documented and heartfelt history.

Exterior
The exterior is full of patina, but the panels are straight with areas of some deep surface rust but no swiss cheese! Here we have Ivy Green Metallic with some faded Road Runner stripes in white and lime green pinstripe flame accenting that was documented as being applied in 1971 for the princely sum of five dollars. It doesn\'t take long to imagine this car with a repaint, looking sharp, and leading with that menacing front fascia, a three dimensional expression muscle car heightened by the stylish tail lights. A power bulge reveals engine displacement and turn signal indicators, all close to the louvered cowl and the hood itself is dappled with surface rust deposits not quite into the metal. Other places where surface rust is present includes the rear window trim, rear panel, along the rocker panels, and over wheel openings.

Interior
Tan is a nice diversion from typical black interiors and this one looks good, beginning on the doors with painted header piece over striped vinyl panels and simple, polished hardware. This two tone tan and brown translate nicely to the split bench seat which is in fabulous condition with only some discoloration on a headrest due to a mirrored reflection during long term storage, and the rear seats are show quality. The color matched plastic steering wheel rim is cracked but the center horn section with cartoon image is intact, and the black backed dashboard is in fine condition and the AM radio is still in place. Our black carpet looks great and the iconic pistol grip Hurst shifter rises boldly from the transmission tunnel and the wood handle is a nice color match to the clean interior. A vinyl mat covers the trunk which houses a polyglas spare tire and jack.

Drivetrain
Looking clean is the orange 383ci V8 under the hood, rated at 335 horsepower and fueled by a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it, the numbers matching A833 4-speed manual transmission that carries the horses to the 8 \" rear with 3.91 gears. Hoses, the starter, bearings, gaskets, and the alternator were replaced at some point along with lifters and a timing chain.

Undercarriage
Occasional damp garage storage has yielded some surface rust underneath but once again, we\'re not seeing the destructive stuff. Drum brakes are mounted behind each of the 14-inchj Mopar Rally wheels and dual exhaust flows through stock style mufflers on its way to an unexciting exit under the back. Suspension consists of torsion bars up front and leaf springs in the back. The gas tank and a pair of shocks were replaced at some point.

Drive-Ability
You go from a rather weathered exterior to a time capsule of an interior and the venerable 383 comes to life with all the gusto of its muscle car heritage while the pistol grip handle remains the most inviting of them all! The car does everything well, as it would have in \'70, from tracking straight, to accelerating with authority, to stopping on demand. We note the clock and reverse lights don\'t work but all other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

We\'re confident Mopar fanatics have read this description with great interest as this is diamond in the rough only in terms of paint. Beyond that, it\'s a complete package and a surviving legend of the muscle car era. B-bodies are the king of the hill and this Road Runner is ready to be the king of your garage.
