They have big block motors and cool badging. They also have boxed rear control arms, clear turn signals, big sway bars, round gauges, extra hardware at the steering box rag joint, and a host of other special items. They? The 1970 Chevelle Super Sport, one of the most iconic, collected and copied muscle cars, period.

She’s red and reported as an RPO Z25, M40, F41 car. She’s also reported as a factory A/C car and has other cool options. You only ask which big block, as they all had ‘em. She carries a 396. Residing out of the Lone Star State, Granger, TX to be exact and she has a clear and clean title in our Owner’s name.

The Chevelle Hardtop really deserves one color, and that is of course red. Owner reports that she was originally a blue car. Just stay between those gorgeous body lines with your Crayola. Add SS strips, black in our case, and watch everybody, well, watch! Her chrome is just a testament to the quality of this car as she’s bright, shiny, and most wonderful. All glass is reported as in proper condition. The cowl induction hood screams muscle and our era correct Cragar s/s rims set off the traditional style.

Black vinyl interior boasts the SS package. Center console dividing bucket seats. Round gauge package, reported as all operational. Nice options include functioning factory A/C (revamped) electric windows, power brakes, tilt wheel and power seat. Window operations are noted as performing perfectly.

Big block power comes in the form of GM’s venerable 396 cid V8. Backing is the optioned(M-40) Turbo-Hydramatic 400 series automatic transmission. Aforementioned boxed rear control arms support the Corp 12 rear end. Suspension has large sway bars front and rear, classic to the RPO F41 heavy-duty suspension. Ball joints, bearings, bushings and steering box are reported as new.

Independent review of this SS was performed by the crew of Lemon Squad. Critical and objective, they were very thorough with this car. Cosmetically, they redlined a few items, but really, the words ‘minor, not excessive, and some’ were incorporated. Some interior wear, minor paint flaws, etc. Really, the report is giving her positive marks and includes minor challenges. Mechanically, oil leaks were suspected and advised, as in ‘need further evaluation’. Her performance was given high praise.

Iconic and ‘tributed’, there is no further acclaim to a true Super Sport than when they are copied. Look closely, very closely and there are things one just can’t redo. Our Chevelle is reported as a true, ex-blue Super Sport and her finite details plus very desirable extra’s point to exclusivity. Chevy hit a home run with the ’70 Chevelle, some say even eclipsing the ultra-sharp ’68-’69 design. Their desire is definitely displayed in their price, as the ’70 SS commands staggering dollars when compared to even just 10 yrs back. And they are predicted to continue to rise astronomically.
