DESCRIPTION

1927 Corre LaLicorne HO 2 Series 5 Salon

Corre La Licorne was a French car maker founded 1901 in Levallois-Perret, at the north-western edge of central Paris, by Jean-Marie Corre. Initially marketed under the name Corre, then becoming La Licorice, the cars were produced until 1949. Business began with the production of tricycles and a single-cylinder quadricycle single-cylinder cabriolet using De Dion-Bouton components. Early sales volumes were modest. To give greater prominence to the brand, the company began to participate in competition, and racing victories achieved, in particular in 1906 by the driver Waldemar Lestienne, gave the company valuable recognition. Sales improved and were soon challenging those of longer established brands such as Renault, Peugeot and De Dion-Bouton.

For consignment, a rare 1928 Corre LaLicorne Salon. This car has been restored and presents in very nice condition. A nice exterior 2 tone, like new broadcloth tuck and roll interior, plenty of wood trimmings and a 4 cylinder engine with racing heritage, you will be the only one on the block to have one of these.

Exterior
Looking the part of all automobiles of the day, it leads the way with a chromed radiator surround and circular headlights all shiny and nice. A cowled hood has brown on top and yellow for the sides. Curved fenders and a running board are attached and present in brown. 18-inch artillery wheels in contrasting yellow are on and looking in good condition. A 2 door version of the salon, all glass and surrounding trimmings are shiny and bright. This car is a right hand driver and to aid in the view, mirrors are attached to either side just prior to the firewall which is brown. The passenger compartment is covered in brown as are all the uppers of the car. A nicely curved line delineates the top from the bottom pan back and a spare tire is hanging off the bumper less rear of the car. No rust seen on this French steel femme.

Interior
Also fully restored we see nicely covered and straight tight door panels in brown broadcloth. Upfront, the seats are squared off buckets with tuck and roll pattern in brown broadcloth. These have chromed metal edging for the hinges and backs. In the back is a long bench stretching from side to side. Meanwhile, the carpeting is another shade of brown and nicely preserved and like new. Sides and headliner are in a cream broadcloth and all nice and tight and not stained. A curved wood dash top is above a leather covered dash front in a shiny brown which is semi-metallic finished. A wood rimmed steering wheel fronts the dash and delicate gauges in French are seen with patina bezels. A few knobs and pulls in silver are also installed to perform various functions. All looking great for this French designed and inspired interior.

Drivetrain
Under the cowled hood is a 950cc inline 4 cylinder engine. It has a 1-barrel carburetor on top, and a 3-speed manual transmission on back. Engine has been fully restored and has just a bit of dust on the top but no rust or corrosion. Just aft of the engine within the firewall is the red painted fuel tank.

Undercarriage
Again, no real rust to speak of, just a bit of surface rust on the muffler and exhaust piping. All else is straight black painted steel for the frame structure and leaf springs for the front, as well as quarter elliptical leaf springs for the back. Mechanical drum braking is on all 4 corners.

Drive-Ability
As with any car fresh out of long term storage, some TLC is in order before ignition is realized. While the engine does turn over by hand, no attempt was made to start this French import.

An interesting auto from France, with a crested badge, racing history and a bit of relationship with Citroen for some parts in its manufacture. Allons faire un tour en voiture!
