DESCRIPTION
1965 Factory 5 Type 65 Shelby Daytona Coupe
For consignment, a 1965 Ford Factory Five Type 65 Shelby Daytona Coupe showing 282 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. A 302 with aluminum heads up front, Wilwood brakes, and racing seats are just the tip of the iceberg for this replicated legend.
Exterior
The fiberglass body is painted Mineral Gray Metallic and shines from stem to stern, augmented by wide taped stripes portraying carbon fiber. The nose of the car features clear covers on the headlights with amber markers also under glass and a pointed nose with gaping lower air intake that is flanked by fog lights. The front of the body is one piece and houses an open scoop, encapsulated with aluminum panels that lead to the fan and radiator. The smooth body leads back to an upturned rear with integrated wing and a flat fascia that was intended to shed turbulent air at high speed, here with a prominent \"07\" displayed flanked by four small, circular tail lights. The vast rear window provides a look through the roll cage right to the cockpit of this speedster. Black side pipes vent from the front quarter, and 17-inch Halibrand style are perfectly matched and wrapped in ZR rated tires. A hood release on side, and a fuel door release on the other, shares space with side vents and a race style gas cap emerges from the rear quarter panel. Imperfections include a few small chips including the tip of the nose and imperfect carbon fiber tape on the lower dam.
Interior
A simple black plastic panel is embedded on the color matched inner doors while plexiglass windows on the doors will do their best to keep out the rain, if you dare. Step over the aluminum plates on the sills to find Kirkey Racing seats, tall and equipped with harnesses. A wood rimmed steering wheel fronts the notorious simple dash, similar to the real thing, with basic gauges in front, a series in the center, and labeled toggles in a carbon fiber faceplate, all in a smooth, gray dashboard. One of those toggles controls the air conditioning, yes air conditioning! The big, square center hump houses a long shifter and black carpet covers the tunnel and the floor. A black roll cage frames the cabin.
Drivetrain
Clean and show worthy, which is good because people will wait for you to pull up the front clip, is a 302ci V8 with aluminum heads, a Weiand intake and Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. It\'s mated to a T5 5-speed manual transmission that sends power to the Ford 8.8\" axle in back.
Undercarriage
All clean here with the tubular chassis taking center stage. Headers begin the exhaust process and lead to the side pipes. Disc brakes are at all four wheels with Wilwood occupying the front and suspension includes coil overs at both ends with a 4 link in back.
Drive-Ability
The race like quarters provide a secure feeling, especially with harnesses on board. The engine comes to life with a healthy exhaust note and we roll onto the test loop where the car exhibits great power, super handling, and braking that\'s on point. All functions on this Factory Five work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
You can\'t own the real deal even if you could, you likely don\'t want to pay that invoice. Besides, it\'s not for sale. But you can drive a dramatic and eye catching replica done by one of the most respected replica companies, Factory Five. If you don\'t like attention, if you\'re the least bit introverted, this car will likely be relegated to the garage full time. But if you love the driving experience, the questions from the crowd, and being associated with a true American automotive legend, this is the car for you!
