DESCRIPTION

Cars that were labors of love tend to stand out. It's hard to pinpoint what, exactly, makes them special, but when this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-door post coupe showed up, it had that certain something that made us all take a few extra minutes checking it out. Go ahead and look at the photos, but I'll bet you said, "Wow," when you saw all the details.

Smart builders always leave the '57 Chevy's sheetmetal alone and concentrate on making it as straight as possible instead, and that's certainly the case here. One of the most gorgeous designs of the decade, there's just no line that's out of place anywhere, and the guy who built this one was very, very careful to preserve every single one of them. Silver may not seem all that sexy at first glance, but take a closer look at this one: it's very nicely finished with just the right amount of metallic so that it glows in the sunlight and casts all kinds of wonderful reflections in its laser-straight flanks. It was finished maybe 15 years ago, so it's not perfect, but if you're sick of looking at red and black '57s, this one is a welcome relief that stands out in a crowd. The trim makes the Bel Air special, and it's all there and in great shape, so nobody will mistake it for anything else and thankfully none of it was shaved or deleted in pursuit of style.

The stylish interior shows off the plenty of custom work, wearing fresh charcoal gray vinyl upholstery that looks a lot like what this car might have carried when it was new. Custom door panels were created to match, and there's a new headliner overhead as well. For contrast, black carpets and matching mats, plus a custom center console with B&M shifter were installed and the dash was painted to match the bodywork. The instrument panel still carries the original speedometer, which is flanked by the stock auxiliary gauges, but there's also a tach on the side of the tilt steering column and the usual trio of auxiliary gauges underneath. An AM/FM stereo slots neatly into the dash so nothing was hacked up and this car features ice cold A/C that's neatly integrated so as to not call too much attention to itself. The trunk is finished with black carpets that give it a finished look, and the battery has been stashed back here to free up room in front, and I'll tell you why.

That's a 468 cubic inch big block V8 under the hood, and it needs every bit of space it can get. The well-dressed Chevy looks great and you know where the big money was spent on this build. Horsepower builders include an Edelbrock Performer intake and Holley 4-barrel carburetor, HEI ignition system, oval port heads, forged pistons with 11:1 compression, and a fairly stout cam. There's also a set of long-tube headers that connect to a great-sounding Flowmaster exhaust system. A full chrome dress-up kit gives it the appropriate amount of sparkle, and a big aluminum radiator up front keeps it cool no matter what the outside temperature. It's backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic gearbox, which promises easy cruising and at least tolerable fuel economy from the big block. A power steering box improves responsiveness and four-wheel disc brakes are a great safety upgrade. 17-inch American Racing wheels are a modern take on the classic Torque Thrust and wear 245/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear performance radials that fill the wheel wells nicely.

A high-grade build done by a guy who did it because he was fulfilling a dream, not looking for a return on his investment. Enjoy the benefits of this special car and call us today!
