Model A Tractor

This model A is sitting at an old cement plant. It looks like it was made into a tractor of some sort as it has a big rear differential with gigantic rear tires on it.

I've seen a few of these at antique tractor events. Also saw one at a swap meet outside of Denver, the guy wanted a LOT of money for it. There is also a guy in England who made a nice hot rod out of a doodlebug.

Lots of Model A's and other 30's cars were made into tractors during the depression and WWII. They were called doodlebugs. Most had two transmissions and a truck rear end and large tires in back. I had a '32 Chevy doodlebug when I was in high school in the 60's. It had the original mechanical brakes and was complete from the cowl forward. Wish I still had it. I think I paid $15 for it. My father had it crushed when I was in college. If you put the rear transmission in first gear and the front in first also, it would crawl at a very slow speed. They never were a very good substitute for a real tractor.
