After Triumph introduced the TR6 in 1969, it rapidly became the best-selling model of the TR lineup yet. And after driving one, I can understand why. As the successor to the very capable and stylish TR4, the TR6 got some nice performance upgrades.
Standard features for the TR6 included independent rear suspension, front disc brakes and rack-and-pinion steering. And they all came with a smooth-running, powerful straight-6 with twin sidedraft carburetors mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. The TR6 also came standard with 15-inch wheels and relatively wide tires (for its era), providing excellent grip and road handling characteristics.
In short, they''re tight, responsive and very fun to drive.
This 1975 TR6 is a nice driver in excellent mechanical condition. Clad in Java Green, it''s correct to the trim code and one of my favorite colors (Java Green was a one-year-only color for Triumph and is the exact same color as Porsche Viper Green). The car is solid throughout with no known rust issues; it has some minor flaws on the hood but the panels are largely straight with good gaps. The bumpers, grille, trim, lenses and original steel wheels are all in good condition. Door sills, rockers, floor pans and trunk bottom are all solid with no known rust issues. Furthermore, the door jambs and engine compartment are still wearing their original paint.
The interior shows well and the wood dash is especially nice. Seat upholstery, carpet and door panels are in good condition; the top is newer and in excellent shape (and it has the correct reflective striping -- rare to find on replacement tops). All gauges and electricals are working properly.
Mechanically, the car is in very good condition. The engine was rebuilt fewer than 10,000 miles ago, at which time the rear differential mounts were also reinforced. It starts on the first try and runs smoothly; clutch, gearbox, steering and brakes all feel as they should. This is undoubtedly a "turn key" driver that needs nothing except to be enjoyed.
This well-tuned example sounds good, looks good and feels good and provides great handling and lots of style for a great value. Give us a call at 404-692-5250 if you''re interested in learning more about this classic TR6 available at Motorcar Studio in Atlanta.
