We're offering a rare opportunity to own a fine example of one of the most desirable British sports cars ever produced. This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III has just 87,304 original miles. It's a one-owner car, and was purchased new in Atlanta where it has remained its entire life.
The car is mostly unrestored, but is in very good condition, has been well maintained, and needs nothing to be enjoyed. This "Big Healey" has seen one repaint in its original color, Colorado Red, about 15 years ago. Always garaged and driven sparingly, the paint is in excellent shape, with no dings, scratches and certainly no rust bubbles. The car is rust-free both topside and underneath, and all panels are original. Chrome, brightwork and bumpers are original and show very well. Glass is also original, and there are still University of Georgia student parking stickers from the early 1970s on the windshield from the owner's graduate school days. Of course these can be removed, but we like retaining these bits of provenance and personality.
The wire wheels are original to the car and remain in good condition; tires are nearly new. The factory-supplied Thor brass hammer to remove the knockoffs is still in the boot.
The interior is mostly original. Seat upholstery is original and has held up remarkably well; the original walnut veneer dash is presentable, but is showing its age. All gauges are correct, original, and most importantly, working -- except for the fuel gauge. The car even has its original Motorola AM radio, which still works. Carpet is new, and a newer top is in great shape.
This Healey comes with a file of documentation an inch thick, including the original Georgia title from 1965, the original "Driver's Handbook" published by BMC, the factory service interval booklet, and the manual for the Motorola radio. The original owner has invested nearly $10,000 in service over the last ten years, including a recent new clutch, new fuel pump, new heater core and new brakes.
Handling remains sprightly and sure-footed, just as you would expect. Few cars in our showroom bring us such driving pleasure.
This example isn't going to take best-in-class at Pebble Beach, but it is an excellent and presentable "driver" that would be admired at any Healey club event.
This is the first time this car has been on the market in the 47 years since it was new, and it represents an excellent value when compared to the concourse restorations fetching up to twice the price.
