Those of us who can actually remember three decades ago recall the Z-car as the epitome of 1980s excess. Outrageously expensive. Unabashedly Japanese. You still see these on the road -- they just won't die -- but so many have fallen into the wrong hands and are completely ragged out.
Not this one. Unmolested and very original, this is perhaps the cleanest vintage Z we have ever encountered. Silver is the best color for this car; the paint looks fantastic and really makes the blue interior stand out. The seats are showing little, if any, wear and there are no cracks in the dash.
Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.8 liter straight six. In 1981, the turbo only shipped with an automatic transmission. This Z runs and drives great -- and since it's a Nissan, of course everything still works. Even the a/c still blows nice and cold.
The S130 was the second generation Z car, based on the original S30 Z which ran from 1969 to 1978. The revamped 280ZX was named Motor Trend's import car of the year in 1979. You can still see this car's classic lines reflected in Nissan's current Z.
