The Porsche 356A Convertible D replica is an expensive upgrade from a standard, Porsche Speedster replica. The `D` has a much stronger and taller windshield frame and rollup windows and better, bolted on folding hardtop. Our `D` was professionally assembled by a VW and racing mechanic, and indeed he initially developed the car for road racing. It features a very stiff, square tube steel frame and other structural stiffening that is a far cry from flimsy, VW pan replica chassis. It also has new, 4 wheel disk brakes, upgraded suspension, Panasport wheels and high performance tires, a Painless brand new wiring harness, heavily bolstered, Recaro seats, wood wheel and new guages. The car has the original, factory Dove grey finish. The rollup window and `D` windshield frame and glass package sell for over $2,000 from the manufacturer. Complete assembly manuals are included. A rebuilt, 1600 dual port VW air cooled engine provides excellent fuel economy and adequate performance. With an upgraded, high performance engine, this car would outperform most modern sports cars. Some work on this car needs to be completed with the interior. When completed, this car will offer incredible driving fun at a fraction of the price of a real Convertible D, which typically sell for $80,000-150,000.
