| Pontiac Safari |
| The Pontiac Safari was first introduced in 1955 as a 2-door hardtop and featured sport-coupe front doors, extra chrome adorning the tailgate and interior, and sliding rear-seat windows. In 1956 with a unique body style that was only a year old, Pontiac limited changes to the Safari. For 1957, Pontiac applied the Safari nameplate to all of its station wagons in all of its product lines including Chieftain, Super Chief and Star Chief Custom. For 1958 the unique sport wagon body was discontinued, and all full-size station wagon models produced by Pontiac were named Safaris and for their series. Note: A two-door Safari was produced in 1958 in Pontiac's Chieftain series, and shared its body with the Chevrolet Del Ray wagon. |
