As one of America's best selling automotive series the Buick Special was first produced from 1936 – 1958 as the entry level full-size automobile. In 1961 the Buick Special returned after a short absence of just two years, as a brand new intermediate GM A platform series offered through 1972. The Special returned briefly to the GM A platform in 1975 as an entry level sub-series of the Buick Century as the Buick Century Special.
