1978 Pontiac Firebird

Much remained the same in 1978 for the Firebird and Pontiac was now capitalizing on the popularity of the Firebird as sales soared to a record 187,285.

Note: Another record setting year for the Trans Am and it's sales and a special silver 10th Anniversary edition Trans Am was sold in what would be the last year for the Pontiac 400 engine.

• V8 305 "U" Code - 145 hp
• V8 350, "X" Code - 155 hp
• V8 350, "L" Code - 170 hp
• V8 350, "R" Code - 170 hp
• V8 400, "Z" Code - 180 hp, Note: Optional T/A V-8 same as V8 400, only with 220 hp!

Note: V8 403 cid, was used in all Calafornia models
