| Sporting a fresh new face, more rounded lines and a new hatch-back bodystyle the 1973 Nova soared in sales. The new sporty hatchback bodystyle was based on the 2-door coupe and all ’73 Nova’s sported the new “5-mph” bumpers, following a government mandate that all vehicles must be capable of a low-speed impact of 5 mph. A modified rear side window shape was also introduced, eliminating the vent windows on both two- and four-door models. A revised rear suspension was adapted from the second generation Camaro with multi-leaf springs replacing the mono-leaf springs used on Novas since the original 1962 model. The Nova SS models still offered a higher-performance 350V8. |
