| The big news for the Corvette in 1970 was Chevrolets new 454 V8 that replaced the power-plant pavement pounding 427s. 1970 sales fell to nearly half, due to the result of a strike at General Motors. A “cheese-grater” grille insert and front fender vents marked the ’70 ‘Vette. The top power-plant option for the ’70 Corvette went to the 454 LS5 rated at 390 hp. Base prices rose to $5,192 for the Coupe and $4,849 for the ragtop, with 17,316 produced. |
